DEXTER WARD

DEXTER WARD was born in the year 2000 with the aim of making electronic music mixed with influences from progressive rock, contemporary composers and new musical tendencies. The music available in the page is very different and it is possible to find songs sounding classical or experiments where elements such as pure noise are welcome. DEXTER WARD is a one man project leaded by AITOR BERRAONDO who is also working with other bands in Pamplona (HORTHY, MERAK,..).

DEXTER WARD is the solo project of Aitor Berraondo (Pamplona (Spain) 1972), which started in the year 2000, with the aim of creating an experimental and open music far from the conventional and mainstream models.

DEXTER WARD releases its homonymous first demo at the end of the year 2000. In this work machines play an important roll. The four songs which are displayed in this first work show the different influences which can be found in DEXTER WARD’s music, from the “avant garde” music of the end of the 20th century (Cage, Stockhausen, Glass, Reich...) to the last electronic bands. This demo received a very positive review in the known Spanish music magazine “Rock de Lux” (RDL nº 182).

In June 2001 DEXTER WARD wins the second prize in the contest named “Other Musics” organized by the government of Navarre, and play in the Gayarre Theatre. By the other way the good comments in RDL magazine puts DEXTER WARD in contact with Victor Nubla, prestigious Spanish musician, who invites DEXTER WARD to play in the V International Festival of Experimental Music (LEM) in Barcelona (the 17th November 2001) sharing date with the American composer Walter Thomson.

At the end of the year 2001, DEXTER WARD releases its second: “REWARD”. In April 2002 another very positive review appears in Rock de Lux magazine (RDL nº 195). During the year 2002, DEXTER WARD takes part in the band HORTHY, an electronic music band with more commercial influences. HORTHY wins the first prize in the contest “Other Musics” (2002) organized by the government of Navarre obtaining also the public award. HORTHY has been playing in Gerona, Madrid and different points of Navarre. Parallely DEXTER WARD releases at the end of the year 2002 its third demo named “BRAVE NEW WARD” after the name of the work by the writer Aldous Huxley. In this moment Aitor Berraondo is recording with HORTHY their first CD in the De Lucas studios in S.Sebastián, and at the same time works in the project DEXTER WARD.

Some concerts were made in the beginning. The best memories could be the performance in Gayarre Theatre where DEXTER WARD won the 2nd award in a contest and also the performance in Barcelona in the LEM festival sharing stage with Walter Thomson. In this moment DEXTER WARD doesn't play life because the efforts are focused in the band HORTHY

I starte with the Roland 505 and edition programs. In this moment I work with the Roland, an Oberheim OB12 and programs such as Reason, Logic, Nuendo and Soundforge.
