Detour is a Vermont based band that has spent a few years playing around the Castleton, Rutland area with other gigs in New York state, and Keene NH.
Each member has very different tastes in music, and different ideas of what they want their music to sound like. This makes for a sometimes times difficult, but in the end, eclectic full music with a wide variety of different songs ranging from hard rock, to rap, to jam band stuff.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Detour is an eclectic band from the small state of Vermont. The group consists of four members. Nich Traverse, Zack Knauer, Chris Knauer, and Matt Wiskoski. The instrumentation for this group is somewhat standard for your ordinary rock group (not that these guys are ordinary), with the exception that who plays what instrument changes with each song. Nich, Zack, and Chris trade off playing lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass, and also lead, and background vocal parts depending on the song. They also share song writing duties, and Zack also adds alto saxophone on a few tracks. Matt is strictly the percussionist, whether it be his kit or hand drums. However, unfortunately, due to complications they had to use a drum machine on the majority of the recordings. These four High school friends are all now living in different areas and all have moved on to other projects, but during the summer and winter months when they return to Vermont they still get together and write, record, and perform.

Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, we play live though we don't much anymore. Detour is sort of on a break due to the fact that we all live in different areas now, and are all working on other projects. During our breaks though we do find time to get together to record and perform mostly in Vermont.
Your musical influences
We all have very differing musical influences which gives us a broad range of sounds and an eclectic catalog.the groups' influences range from 311 and chevelle, to jack johnson and phish, to the beatles and tribe called quest. it is really all over the place.
What equipment do you use?
your standard rock stuff, guitars drums, etc. Nich mostly plays a fender telecaster and martin dc15e acoustic/electric. Zack plays a Gibson j180-ec acoustic/electric and Gretsch synchromatic electric. Chris plays those guitars too, and a epiphone les paul custom. We use a ltd esp b-50 bass, and Matt plays a tama set.
