I was greatly releaved when eventually I got a website to express and tell you guys what i can do best, music is my nature, i breath it, eversince i was in the percation band, it was my dream to join these intruments together and make one forme of joint sound with diferent variations just to entertain, Maybe thats why i became a musical Producer
I hope that I am going to explain myself well, not simply because I have my hopes and wishes, but that it happens to be who exactly I am.
During my High School days at Msengezi Secondary School, I was leader of the Pecation Band. A Pecation Band is a group of students who engage in conducting traditional dance shows and cheer-leaders activities for the school during important festivals or to commemorate the country's revolutionary days. These students practice traditional dance, cultural activities and drama and wear traditional attire such as "nhembe" to bring awareness to the young about our roots.
It is this responsibility that led me to play "jorosarema" - a kind of get together dance festival that is played using drums and "hosho" as well as "manja"-clapping sticks. Jorosarema is a famous traditional dance that is practiced mostly by people from my rural home -the north eastern side of Zimbabwe that covers the district of Murewa. Usually old men and women wear some special dress comprising laced skirts, no top and a head covering made from animal fur or bird feathers. During the rituals of traditional bear drinking, they resort to this characteristic drum beat which uniquely define the Murewa Jorosarema bit. This is unique throughout Africa. Because I lived and witnessed Jorosarema live , I have even seen people getting possessed during this bear drinking and dance. As students, I taught my fellow students how to play Jorosarema and this way we became famous. Part of my project which got stalled due to resources availability and time constraints, was to replay Jorosarema using modern instruments that combine an assortment of juitars, keyboards and drums. I believe that if granted an opportunity I would revive this almost extinct entertainment tradition and revamp it with modern tunes, while preserving its traditionality.
Another instrument that I played a lot was "marimba". We had a number of songs that I taught my peers to play using marimba. Marimba are a series of plaided planks that are lines under hollow cylindrical bases that when hit, because of different shapes and sizes, produce different tunes and melodies. The problem with marimbas is that they are not easily transported from one place to another. They also exist in different sizes, so much that one would need a truck to ferry them here and there. However the school had this set and we learnt from them and would play many traditional songs using marimba as instruments. If you thought that computerized music and modern instrumentation was the fin to my upbringing, then you are wrong. It started way back when my dad taught me how to play "mbira". Mbira is one zimbabwean instrument of age. I hear that this instrument exists in some other countries, but the uniqueness of the zimbabwean mbira is in the way the metal thongs are arranged and off course the type of songs that we sing through these tunes. I am not an expert in mbira playing, but I would do my best to bring two or three sets so that some young americans or fellow africans can learn music the african way.
Aside from these instrument related traditions, I was very active in some dance such as "muchongoyo". I have very few means to explain this and how I wish "muchongoyo" was explained using google search engines! All I can say is that these traditional dances are explicit to Zimbabwean way of life. I just wish our nation were free politically and economically sound to foreigners so that people are free to visit Zimbabwe. Life has changed and it changes every day and for the worse
