DeRita Sisters And Junior

Old school 1977 style pogo punk rock - catchy melodies, fast, short songs with stupid lyrics. These guys have been around now 12 years and will soon release their 20th full-length album. They've toured Europe, released records all over the world, been featured at NXNW Music Conference and so much more. The DeRitas put the fun back into punk rock.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Formed in 1992 by Mark Gilman and Jay Smith to fill the musical void of the early 90s, the band drew on influences from the old school of punk rock and came up with a fresh approach to the three chord, one-minute song. First three releases were self-produced on their own label, Real George Records which lead to a deal with Incognito Records and later High Society Records in Germany. The band is also signed to Smokin' Troll Records in England and To The Left Records in the USA and more recently have product out on Germany's Plastic Bomb and Trash 2001 Records.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play all over Southern California and just got back from another tour of Germany where we are quite popular. We enjoy playing live, but getting club bookers to call back to give you a gig is a pain in the ass, and we rarely get paid. The last German tour was AMAZING! They treated us very well and we played to packed houses every night.
Your musical influences
Old school, 1977 British punk rock, such as The Damned, Lurkers, Buzzcocks, Sham 69 and American bands like The Ramones, TSOL and Angry Samoans.
What equipment do you use?
We use real instruments - guitars, bass and drums, and loud ass amps.
Anything else?
Return to the old school of punk rock. Crush the skate punks, the emo-core, and the pop-punk! Kill rap now! And remember, only REAL punks EAT MEAT! Vegetarians fart too much.
