Derek Keller

I am a 20 year-old singer/songwriter from Punxsutawney, PA. BIO: Music became significant for me around 1995 when I started listening to Green Day and Aerosmith. Growing up, my Uncle Brent being a musician was a very major reason I decided to play music. I loved to watch him sing and play. I used to make pretend drumsets out of pot lids, cardboard boxes, sticks, shoeboxes, and duct tape. I was always tapping on things and singing along with tapes or cutting out and drawing cassette tape cover designs or something like that. I started a band with some friends in elementary school, playing drums for them; was fun. As I got older and started listening to Bush and Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine. When I was about 14, I borrowed a guitar that belonged to my Uncle Gus and I started looking up guitar tableture for Nirvana songs. I learned my chords and practiced. Before I knew it I was filling notebooks with strange lyrics and simple bar chord patterns. Eventually, I started writing more mellow, folkish material which I am content with. As of now, I'm not really serious with music; I do it for fun. I like to record stuff and enjoy watching all the parts of the song come together little by little.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I've been in bands here and there. A drummer for this band, guitarist for that band, bass player, singer, etc...As of now I just jam with people and try to write my own stuff.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Not really. I have played infront of people, but I'm currently not very active. I'm in the shadows trying to write and find my sound.
