Derek Herman
Hey how is everyone. I'm a single act Playing mostly writers nights in Nashville and a few other shows around town. I consider my music New Country. Grew up listening to 80's rock and feel a little of that influence in my music along with other influences like, Tim Mcgraw, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Chris Cagle, Randy Travis just to name few. Simply lyrics about real life and emotions.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Didn't really move to Nashville for the music. Landed a job here in 2001 after eight years in the Marine Corps. A friend overheard me singing and suggested that I get a guitar. So I did. I've been hooked ever since. I grew up singing in church plays and school plays and loved it then like I love it now. I guess it just took a little extra time to find my road. To be able to wake up in the morning with that burning desire to do something and go to bed at night dreaming about it. I feel lucky to have found what I have always been looking for. Seems to me that it has been there all along.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I play the Commodore Lounge, French Quarter Cafe, Mister C's, Nashville Crossroads, Bluebird Cafe and pretty much anywhere else there's a microphone and some speakers. Live is what I live for. The feeling the rush the emotion and when you reach people with something so personal from yourself and they feel they relate to your songs. Got to play for about 300 Army National Guard troops this past December, 2004 and was a great feeling to give back to those who give so much.
Your musical influences
Tim McGraw, Phil Collins, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Chris Cagle. Music in general. I love it.
What equipment do you use?
I play an Alvarez Yairi WY1K Acoustic/Electric and use D'Addario EXP17 medium strings.
