Defective Machine
Defective Machine started as a pet project in
late 2004 to combine musical styles of electronic, ambient, industrial, psychedelic, and funk/blues all into one style.
Defective Machine isn't really a band, it's only official member is singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Kenneth Garin who is solely responsible for Defective Machines musical direction.
The record will include sounds of detuned slap bass, guitar ranging from blues to metal, complex electronic beats/sequences and his own vocals and samples.
Styles of psychedelic 60s to electronic and metal of today will all be a staple in this record.
Lots of the sounds used in DM are created using odd devices not made for musical sound and even home made electronics to produce specific sounds where they were needed.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Defective Machine has been around since 2004. It's first public released album will be on Oct 30 2005.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
"I play live all the time, just not where everyone can hear me. When I do I get other players to fill in the parts I can't play since there is no way I could be playing guitar, bass, synth, and other stuff all at the same time live. Only in the studio can I get away with that."
Your musical influences
"Mudvayne, Stereolab,
Aphex Twin, The Pink Floyd, Modest Mouse,
Nine Inch Nails, Beck, Skinny Puppy, Mouse on Mars, Ministry, Gorillaz and just about everything else I've ever listened to!"
What equipment do you use?
"I use anything I can get my hands on from cheap toys to expensive stuff. A lot of the equipment I use is homemade right down to the electronics inside to give my music unique sound that no one else can get."
Anything else?
"I'm still looking for someone in this world who doesn't like music, does a person like that exist?"
