Decay Garden is a solo project, meant to be a way for me to do the music that I love, and to experiment with adding elements from other forms of music while still preserving the drive and aggression that I think is so necessary.
Band/artist history
This project is a result of having spent 20 years making music in a variety of bands, and having egos always become a problem. I decided that I would take some time, engage my brain, and learn to use some of the tools that make having a full band not particularly necessary anymore.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have not been playing live lately, as I have no band to be playing live with, but I do enjoy playing live a great deal and am actively recruiting members for a live band. I have played a number of shows in Chicago, and some on the west coast. Some of my best memories of live shows involve the band making all other activities stop, more or less, while the show is going on - not the easiest task when playing smaller clubs and bars.
Your musical influences
My influences range from bands like AC/DC to Marilyn Manson, including genres like hair metal, nu metal, and a wide variety of other specific bands and tracks that have caught my ear for some reason or another over the years. Primarily, listening to what I write seems to generate the same type of response as other fairly extreme sounds - people like it, or they dont, but very few come away with no reaction at all.
What equipment do you use?
Schecter, Jackson, Ibanez and Tradition guitars, Line 6 gear for both guitar and bass, Reason, FLstudio, a bunch of vsts, and a pretty fair selection of outboard hardware.
Anything else?
In music, anything goes - so I figured why not combine some things that seem on the surface to be mutually exclusive. It did take a few tries to start getting the mix right, but it does work, if you are just willing to give it a shot
