New independent label Electropapknit Records are pleased to announce their first release, the debut EP by Deathpodal, entitled Exu__Wow. Exu__Wow was written, recorded and mixed by solo artist Deathpodal in various locations across Scotland, and features a number of musicians including members of Copy Haho and PVH.
Bringing together post punk, DIY recording techniques, warm undulating melodies and a cacophony of instrumentation, Electropapknit Records are excited about this first release by Deathpodal, the moniker of musician Alastair J. Chivers. Alastair is a multi instrumentalist, having played guitar, synth, piano, metalwork, percussion, soo soo (a type of Indian flute), melodica, vocals, and samples on the Exu__Wow release. The EP was recorded as an art project, all the friends / musicians involved played on the release for free and it was recorded in various locations across Scotland (including the University of Glasgow, various flats and a church in Edinburgh, a portacabin in Stonehaven and also on the streets of Prague).
This summer, Alastair will be touring an eagerly anticipated live band version of Deathpodal across Scotland and further afield, featuring the Exu__Wow release and new tracks. The EP will be available through various online retailers including iTunes and eMusic as well as CD digipak.Band/artist history
I started in 2003, however didn't serious do things with this project until 2006. I've been lucky enough to support some great Scottish acts like Uncle John and Whitelock and Hookers Green #1, as well as Paul Research of The Scars.
This year should be exciting.Have you performed in front of an audience?I love playing live, I'm going to be touring the UK later this year, it should be sweet. I've done that before in a previous band, smashing guitars etc. I'm past that now, but I still like to unsettle people...
Your musical influences
Well I like the DIY ethic of Fugazi. And I love post punk bands like Jesus Lizard, This Heat, Gang of Four, Mission of Burma etc. Oh and Can as well as Krautrock. This last release was influenced by a lot of state side bands like Sonic Youth and Xiu Xiu.
Really I owe a lot to Thomas Truax, it was his stylings and sounds that inspired and gave me confidence to do Deathpodal. What equipment do you use?
All sorts, a ton of distortion pedals, G&L guitars, Orange amps, with tunings and settings angled for destruction!Anything else?
Yeah man, get in touch if you have any questions, or if you want a little advice in how to record or promote yourself! I can't say I'm an authority, but I can tell you what I've done! deathpodal(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)ukAdmin
