This song has such a 50's rockabilly feel to it! It has a lot of potential to do a lot of things in the music, and I definitely hear call and response harmony lines all through it. (I was singing them with you. haha) Really nice job....happy-go-lucky song. You really captured the mood you're describing here.

A person's foolish pride oftentimes is regretted later. It's something I believe we all have dealt with and wish we could change. Love this song....the chorus is beautiful, and it teaches valuable lessons in the lyrics. A song that everyone should hear as perhaps there wouldn't be as much guilt after it's too late if people took the time to think about what you're singing about here.

A very positive uplifting song about a mother's love! It's always a good feeling to know you've got somewhere to go no matter what happens in life. Good story telling...and I love the melody, especially in the chorus. This is one of my favorite songs you have posted. Very nice job!

This is a really touching song about being a parent and watching a child grow up year by year. I especially felt the second verse - Being a nervous child beyond belief, I cried many, many tears whenever being dropped off at school. I knew it must have torn my parents apart. Great song, Dawn.

Song: Jellybean
Cute song about your youngest daughter. I like the bounce in the music and melody of this song. According to the lyrics, they sum up your daughter's personality quite well!

It seems once you start out on the wrong foot, it's hard to ever get your stride back the way it should be...but still we try. Your song reminded me of that, someone who had a hard life and is now trying to protect themselves and others from going back to that life again. The bridge was great....living beats dying. Great job on this song.

Song: Hey You
I'm guessing this song would go over really well with a female audience. It seems females always like other females "angry" songs. lol. Although, this one doesn't sound quite so ANGRY as it just feels "annoyed" at this point of that relationship. Nice song.

This is really well-written, and I like how the last line of every verse continued to change little by little to tell the complete story. The locket being heavy in your hand was a great line as it brought that "sinking heart" feeling that most have been familiar with at some point or another. Great writing...very pretty melody, as well, especially in the bridge. Vocals sound great, as always.

"You win every time we disagree, but this time you're losing baby, you're losing me." That is such a great finale to the chorus because it's a play on words of sorts. Great job with that line. It's catchy and unique. I also like the rest of your chorus because I'm drawn to opposition and shows how these two people really do live in separate words. Catchy melody, as well. Just a nice job all around on this one. :)

This song has a different feel to me because the music sounds more positive than negative, but the words are saying otherwise. That being said, I still like the contrast of the two coming together and making this song. The way you treat me, a good reason won't be hard to find" has got to be my favorite line in the song and there's always the statement, "Give me a reason"....or "Give me even ONE reason". That line in your bridge really sums up the kind of person you're singing about.

"But to love enough for both of us, is something I can’t do." And isn't that a sad reality when that kind of situation comes up? This was a very well-written song that tugs at the heart. You left a lot of breathing room in the melody to this song, something I'm not always good at! Less is more in so many cases, and the lay-out of this song is a good reminder of that. Great job.

Beautiful song with a strong message and a strong, memorable melody. I like songs that have questions in them because it somehow makes them more personal, and then automatically puts the listener into the position of trying to answer the questions themselves. Your words run deep here, and sometimes I think people hold on simply and merely because they're afraid to let go and be on their own. What they don't realize, though, is that they're already on their own in that kind of situation. Great song....makes me think back to another time in my own life and smile at my own decisions back then.

Friendship songs are always nice to write and sing about because you know everybody will relate to it in their own ways. I don't consider myself to have a lot of close "real best friends", but the ones I do have, I've had them for years and know I always will. Love this song. Good story-telling and beautiful sentiments.

This is a good "change-of-pace" song. It has a nice beat, and the harmonies really set this one off, especially the harmonies on your bridge. This one is quite unique. Very enjoyable little tune!

Another very nice song. I thought the whole thing had a good flow to it, but it was the bridge that stood out the most to me: "I never thought that beautiful was something I could be" line was a great "sum-up" of feelings.

I think this is one of your better songs, as well, and there's something about the groove to the first and third lines in the chorus: It's addicting and they have a real pulse to them. It's hard to write a positive love song without making it sound cliche and cheesy, but you did a great job. It stands strongly. Great job!

I like how you started this song with the same line you ended it on - Made it feel like it had come full circle and that everything was going to be ok after all. Very nice song. It shows good range and good emotion.

Valerie, Thanks so much for listening to some of my material and taking the time to leave such detailed comments! It's been so long since I've even been to this site, makes me realize how much I miss the "drive and inspiration" I used to have to write. It's kinda funny you're favorite of those.... as it's my kids' favorite too. They always called it "The Ambulance Song" lol I always liked Pats' guitar work on Real Men.... On "You Were Gone", I deliberately tried to write it to be universal for a loss... so more of a listening crowd could relate to it. In the dream that actually inspired the song.... it was indeed a sudden death. Anyway, Thanks again for listening, as a fellow-writer, I'm sure you know how awesome it is to hear what other writers think of your material! Do you have your stuff posted anywhere for me to hear?

This is my second favorite song after "Somebody's Day Was Worse". I just love this song as it has that classic country feel that I grew up on, so it seems very familiar. I love the chorus: "They say real men don't cry....but I don't believe it." That set-up the lesson of the song right there, and it's also how I feel, so more power to this song!!

I feel this song goes very deep from a writer's perspective because this could be one of two things: (1) It could be a break-up, parting ways song, or (2) it could be that someone passed away unexpectedly. Either way, it's powerful and emotionally driven, and I can see why this song would be difficult to write even if it's not a reality in your life. The melody is great because it's pretty AND somber all at once.....and it's pretty quiet and laid back through almost the entire thing. So on the occasional parts where you do sing and play louder in the song, it feels like an out-break of emotion before containing yourself again. Excellent job. I love this one, as well.
