David Jerkins - Battlestations

All Instruments/Vocals and Noises unless noted. All music written, arranged, produced and copywrited by David Jerkins I am an artist. I paint images with sound. I use many colors and mediums to paint these soundscapes. Every idea was a visual image in my head, a picture, a journey. I am exibiting these "pictures" in the gallery for all to see and hear. I hope that everyone finds at least one image that is pleasing. You may not see what I see or you may not understand what the picture is of. But if you look with your mind and listen hard you may see something you've never seen. I consider myself not a great musician nor songwriter but what I do comes from my heart and mind, a talent and ability that comes only from the Creator. Band/artist history
David traded a copy of a Question Mark and The Mysterians album to a high school friend for a guitar and an amp. Guitar instructors of the day did not teach rock guitar since âœRock was not real musicâ and his parents discouraged him by saying, âœYou canât make a living playing musicâ. So he gave up musical aspirations but wrote lyrics for the music in his head. David says, âœAfter high school I had no idea what I wanted to be or do in life. Vietnam was raging and all I could see in my future was getting drafted, being sent to Nam and coming home in a body bag.â Later, along with the responsibilities of family and working in a family business, David would on occasion perform original compositions in church. David also studied the art of synthesis and sound development, from mimicking real instruments to the other worldly sounds analog synths were known for. Eventually, when the modern digital workstations came of age, he sequenced accompaniment tracks for his songs and along with guitar, recorded these ideas to cassette. NOW: Now armed with the up to date technology of audio processing and virtual instruments and several years of writing and recording, David has set out to "hang" the "images" he has "painted" in the gallery for all to "see" and hear. David says, âœI hope that everyone will find something, at least one thing, that is pleasing to âlook atâ,that touches someone in a possitive way.â David currently has material finished or near completion for 8 albums with music ranging from Pop, Rock, Metal, Film, Techno, Ambient and points in between. Plans (at this time) are for 2-Pop/Rock, 2-Metal, 2-Film/Instrumental, 1-Praise/Worship/Reflection, and 1-Retro remix of older material.
Your musical influences
Anything with heart, feeling and/or a good groove. Too many artists to name them all. Here is a few, not in any particular order: Rolling Stones (60's- Early 70's), Black Sabbath, Budgie, Roxy Music, Doors, Bob Seger (before Silver Bullet Band), Jan Hammer (Miami Vice soundtrack), Tangerine Dream, Emmylou Harris, Lorreena McKinnett, Waylon Jennings, Free/Bad Company (Paul Rodgers), Robin Trower, Jane (70's-80's German prog-rock), Flamin' Groovies, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Rez Band (80's-90's Christian Rock Band), Yardbirds, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Pink Floyd, The Monkees, Depeche Mode, T-Rex, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Michael McDonald, Creed, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Grand Funk Railroad, Saliva, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Godsmack, Metalica, most of the modern Christian rock bands like Skillet, Switchfoot, P.O.D., Pillar, Disciple, GS Megaphone and a host of others.
Anything else?
CHRISTIAN GENRE?: David says, "I don't like the label; "Christian Music". If I paint a picture of a church or of Jesus, does that make me a Christian artist? If I say I am a Christian, does that make every song I do, a Gospel song? What about the instrumentals? How would you tell? Because I do have Christian beliefs, everything lyrical I have written up to this point, has a Christian theme or message in it somewhere even if you have to look hard for it. I write what I feel, I paint what I see, I write about life and I am an imperfect person". CONCLUSION: Come on, relax, and let your mind take the journey. You will be taken to many different places to see many different things. David may use some unorthodox methods to get where you are going, but you will get there. Most of all you are going to have fun.
