High Like Heaven High Like Heaven

#14 in Rock Unplugged

I am a San Francisco area songwriter/guitarist/singer. My music might be described as acoustic rock, but it involves many differnent styles, and takes influence from many genres. I write mostly on acoustic, but use plenty of electric guitar elements when recording. I try to find and give the listener something coursing with true emotion, something that rocks, yet is delicate, something that challenges the mind, something that has poetic dimensions and something sweet to the ear. My music has been compared, stylistically, to Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, mellower Opeth, REM, the Moody Blues and Live. Mac Leckrone is my partner in creating music. He does all drumming and synth parts.
Band/artist history
I write, perform and record music! In my past, I have been a member of Clockwork Orange (with DelRay Davenport, Carl Bowen and Mike Fillmore), Fenris Wulf (with Charlie Coombs and Mark Bowman), and The Learned Hands (with Chuck Bohn, Mac Lecrone, Rick Gullen and Jim Delciello). But most of my work has been in the context of being a solo artist. Well, semi-solo, I suppose, since my friend Mac Leckrone is always a crucial part of the production process.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I sometimes play live in the San Francisco area. I have great memories of playing live with Charlie Coombs and Mark Bowman when we were in a band together. I also had occasion to play live with Larry Yancey frequently in the not too distant past. He is off-the-charts talented, so that was fun.
Your musical influences
So many! Right now, my favorite band is Opeth. But for the prior 10 or so years, it has been Tool. I also love Jane Siberry, Jethro Tull, Radiohead, Leo Kottke, UFO, King Crimson, Black Sabbath, Kate Bush, In Flames, Loreena McKennitt, UK, Don McLean, Death Angel, Dire Straits, Starz, Scorpions (Roth era), Chris Deburgh, Noe Venable, Stranglers, Motorhead (I think I have more Motorhead CDs than any other single artist in my collection), Kansas, Coroner, Dark Tranquility, Nick Drake, early Megadeth, Ure era Ultravox, Morcheeba, and the list goes on.
What equipment do you use?
Gibson Explorers, Marshall amps, and primarily Taylor acoustics.
