Dave Evans

Currently, I am a solo artist. Writing and performing music has mellowed to a hobby for me. The mind is willing, but the body isn't. I've always been interested in how the computer industry could play a role in music, yet always maintained my infinity for real instruments. I like to combine synthesized production with a classic rock sound and am relieved that home studio recording has been simplified by today's technology.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
My history lies in the future. I define my style as "atmospheric", check out En Route To Neptune for a sample:
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I used to play with a band called Minga. We were a classic rock cover/original band that played steadily in local bars. The atmosphere we created was refreshing. We weren't the kind of band that just played music, we called ourselves because we were very interactive throughout the evening. Bars loved us, tips were high and the booze was flowing.
Your musical influences
My list of influence is long, but I give extra credit to The Beatles, The Who, Rush and Pink Floyd.
What equipment do you use?
I use my computer (home made) for recording (I use Cakewalk's Sonar), plus Roland's VS-2480 for mixing and it's great mic and amp modelling. For keyboard, I use a midi controller to access an EMU soundcard and I have a Roland D-50. I use a Fender Strat for lead/rythmn, an Ibanez Roadstar II bass and an acoustic/electric guitar. Drums are programmed via midi, unless my buddy Tom has time to lay something down (via the internet).
