Dave Anthony (NY)

Acclaimed by NEWSDAY music critic Kevin Amorim for his "excellent hands", guitarist Dave Anthony (Setteducati) performs in the Long Island, New York region. He calls his style "contemporary Spanish guitar" and draws inspiration from the classic Spanish guitar repertoire to create modern compositions using traditional guitar technique. He also plays traditional electric jazz guitar. One of his original pieces, "Agincourt," is featured in the film "Van Vorst Park" starring Paul Dunleavy and Frank Vincent. His repertoire is large and varied, incorporating popular tunes, jazz, classical pieces, and his own compositions. Modern technology has developed the ability to amplify the classic (nylon string) guitar to match any size audience. Dave won fourth place in the 2009 Guitar Player Magazine International Competition
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I have been fortunate to have played extended stints with many fine musicians and bands. Some of them are: Bruce Dedrick, bandleader, guitarist, singer, and trombonist; Bob Dehne, vibist; Jim Chapin, drummer (father of Harry Chapin, world famous singer); Clark Blanton, keyboardist and singer; Don Fabian, saxophone; Paul Effman, clarinet; Eric Seiser, keyboards; Al Verunac, singer and guitarist; Bruce Gelbman, bassist; Barry Frank, guitarist; Shannon Rae, Ann Sweeney, Bob Monteleone, and Dawn Frank, all fine singers; and many many others.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I have played at almost every catering hall and many restaurants on Long Island. I have performed for former NY Governor George Pataki, and played private parties on Necker Island, British Virgin Islands.
Your musical influences
I am flattered that some people compare me to Ottmar Liebert, Earl Klugh, and other fingerstyle and jazz performers.
What equipment do you use?
I have equipment to play any size party at almost any location-even on a beach or park where electricity is not available!
Anything else?
The guitar is a perfect instrument for an intimate wedding ceremony-it's romantic, inspiring, and different from the traditional organ used. It can be played anywhere-on the beach, at a home, in a restaurant, and of course at a church or other place of worship.
