Darren Deicide

"If any proof is needed that the power of blues is easier to find than ever, look no further than Darren Deicide," said The Aquarian Weekly. "Surprisingly rugged and rich...Darren Deicide brings more danger to rock n' roll with a single blues lick and a few moments of your time than most contemporary bands do over the course of a tour," said another review. For over ten years, Darren Deicide has been leaving his own mark on the independent music scene as the purveyor of a unique style of neo-jukehouse blues. Darren Deicide was born on Halloween in the rhythm and blues filled environment of Chicago. With a playing style that "blends the best aspects of blues, rock n' roll, and punk", trademark vocals that one review said "makes Satan himself feel as if he is not sinister enough", and a stomping foot, Darren Deicide delivers a contemporary style of roots-influenced rock that has been described as "John Lee Hooker meets Johnny Rotten", "raw, bluesy punk by a one-man dervish", and "the energy of Hasil Adkins, the presence of Robert Johnson, but the tortured delivery of Daniel Johnston.". Like his own multi-cultural background, his music is an eclectic hybrid of many blues-based styles, but remains, as described in another review, as "good, pissed snot-infested rock n' roll"
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play constantly. See my homepage for information.
Your musical influences
Everything that has been part of the blues lineage but particularly the legacy of rock n' roll. And I don't mean the pop music that somehow gets called "rock" or "R&B". I mean that god awful boogie woogie that has defined Americana.
What equipment do you use?
I play a Gretsch hollow body through a Mesa Boogie 5:25 express and have a small arsenal of vintage Stella guitars that I've rigged with external pickups. I also have a shoe that I stomp on a wooden board. Oh, and I have a couple slides fashioned from piping. That's it.
Anything else?
