Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Scott met Mark when he was working for the county's library system when he got out of college. A year or two later, he mentioned that he had written some songs with another friend, Kevin, and asked for help recording them. The three of them got together in Scott's bedroom, with an organ & two synthesizers playing through a small guitar amp, and recorded two songs on Mark's boombox, Birthday Blue (I Cried For You) and Working For The New Police State. They later moved to the basement, and wrote & recorded a bunch of other material. Over the years, they managed to stay in contact (& keep writing songs), and have found that the internet is a great tool for enabling them to collaborate without regard to the distance between them. They finished a four-song EP, Vale Of Tears, in January of 2004; the first full-length CD is finished, and should be available soon online, for those who would rather not have mp3s. Composing for the next CD has begun. Watch this site for more info!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Dark Victory? has not played live as of yet. We live in Pittsburgh and St Louis so we're spread out. But if it is possible for us to play live and when the opportunity presents itself, we are going to take it.
Your musical influences
All of us have a LOT of divergent influences in rock, pop, r&b, jazz fusion, prog, reggae, folk and blues. Too many to mention here.
What equipment do you use?
Recording is done in Sonar (currently version 8.5), with a variety of hardware (Yamaha, Korg, Roland, Sequential, Emu, Kuzweil, Moog, and Hammond) and software (Native Instruments, Spectrasonics, Cakewalk, Rayzoon and others) instruments. Vocals are recorded in Scott and Kevin's basements, respectively. Additional instruments and vocals may be recorded in other locations. Kevin uses a Shure SM-58, and Scott is currently using an MXL 2001.
