Dante Lewis
Some Real Hip Hop Ish....
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Born in San Diego, CA. in the early 80’s, Dante Lewis first gained an appetite for music while taking band in the sixth grade. In band class, he played the trumpet for three years and learned to read music. By the time he was sixteen, Dante began DJ’ing parties. Because he like to scratch records and considered himself to be one of the best in his area, he eventually became a battle DJ. He DJ’d for seven years, but now only DJs on rare occasions. Dante interned at Urban Records in San Diego under Markis Stone. It was here while working as a pro tools editor that he was introduced to music production. He decided to get into beat making because of the lack of quality producers at the studio. While honing his craft, he produced for some local artist in the San Diego area. Due to management issues at Urban Records, he moved to Virginia Beach, VA.
In August 2005 while in a local guitar music store in Virginia Beach, he met his partner Natural. Both were making beats. They just “happened” to hear the others’ beats. From that initial meeting, they decided to hook-up and see what kind of music they could make together. After many long nights at Natural's home studio, they created a unique hip hop sound. It was then that they decided to form a production team called Fresh Beat Academy. As a team, they have been making beats for local acts since that initial hook-up. To their credits, artists they have produced include Dinero, S.P., Speak Eazy, R.A.S. the Bastard Child, A Gang.com, and a host of other artists. Dante is currently in the lab working on his Mixtape set to drop in May 2007. He is also working on his first solo CD slated for release in late 2007. Also, a Fresh Beat Academy instrumental album is in the works.
