...Cryptus is a critter, a being brought to life by music. It lives as I live, it roams the depths of my mind.

...Cryptus is about experimental soundscapes...searching for a multitude of emotions in the dark recesses of the soul...Band/artist history
Lisbon, Portugal - November 2002. After a chance trip to the Netherlands that became a 6 month stay, Hexx_9, otherwise known as Cryptus started an intercontinental collaboration with Quiloc, that would later become Cryptus Project. Frequenting partys like the Inrichting in Amsterdam and festivals like the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, and influenced by the ever-growing new electronic trend dominating Europe, Cryptus had but one thing on his mind returning home:
To start anew and through music, an unexplored art medium so far, cross the mellow, sinister landscapes of ambient/ethereal Gothic with the pounding, lively beats that characterized the contemporary Industrial/EBM scene in Eastern Europe. Such ideas he had in mind when he first met Quiloc.
The nature of the project was at the time still to be defined, but one good track came out that would set the motto for later works. First and last fruit of this partnership with Quiloc, Shut the Door! would later become remixed as a rather successful, dancefloor oriented track by SYNTAX::ORION - in its Mindgate Remix form. Headed by David/DJ Corrosion SYNTAX::ORION has been an important influence on the national electro scene over a number of years.
This song managed to be played at several clubs in Portugal like the Juke Box, Tocsin, Disorder, Santiago Alquimista and the now extinct B24 darkwave nights by local DJs including both [Synth-Axis] and Sentinel-Alpha (founding members of NUKLEAR DAWN Portuguese harsh-electro/industrial pioneers), Corrosion, De Profundiis and Van Acker.
With Nuklear Dawn as well as Syntax::Orion, Cryptus would manage to get live experience both by collaborating with both singing and keyboards in the following years. Some minor works got self released, like Primitive Works vol. I in 2002 and II in 2003 and also special editions for the 13th Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig(the Bone Gates EP) and 2003’s Summer Darkness (Summer Darkness promo) in Utrecht. These were given freely at the festivals to many people as well as such bands and names as Das Ich (Bruno Kramm), VNV nation (Ronan Harris), Klinik (Dirk Ivens), among others.
It wasn’t until 2004 that Cryptus Project went live. By the end of the year on the 10th of December and in an event that followed an AENIMA concert, promoted by De Profundiis and aided by Corrosion, in Santiago Alquimista Cryptus Project took over the night
Afterwards time was taken for a more mature and complete approach on music.
The side-project of Dark Ambient/Cinematic Soundscapes 'Thermidor' was born, which managed to release some work under the portuguese cultural association/label THISCO.
Currently J. is working for his sound production course at RESTART, and in so doing, learning new ways to destroy your sanity on a much more diverse number of ways, with more competence and a much more cleaner sound.
Meanwhile be sure to check the periodic releases at myspace under THERMIDOR...and keep dreaming...Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes. As for special moments I point out the live collaborations with Nuklear Dawn and Syntax::Orion,two electronic music portuguese acts. Cryptus Project is still evolving with a second Demo underway.
