Heavy Metal

Fast, furious, mental heavy metal from London-based band. Riff-laden guitars, pulsing drums, fluid bass and an enraged beast on vocals.
Band/artist history
Where song-writing is concerned, Crowning Glory has adopted a strict code of conduct: fast, tight, honest metal. A consistent mix of tight riffs, rollercoaster guitar solos and incredible vocals have carved out a sound reminiscent of Motorhead, Maiden and Priest. But don’t be deceived; whilst Crowning Glory do their fair share of hat-tipping to the giants of the past (and present such as QOTSA and Trivium) they are all too aware that they need to offer something new. And that is exactly what they deliver. Forged in the dank, dark taverns of London; emerged a band sounding more refreshing than the offer of a cold pint on a hot day. “We just wanted to write balls out, straight-up metal; the kind of thing that would make us go mental if we were in the crowd” enthuses vocalist Robert Alexander, “we don’t let up, we don’t do ballads, we do the kind of music that makes you want to bang your head and raise your fists!” Crowning Glory’s pedigree is evident with both Robert and Nick hailing from Birmingham; the birthplace of metal. Robert Alexander has a range comparable with Rob Halford and when you consider he was born within 3 miles of Robert Plant and Ozzy it’s easy to see why more than a little of their presence and unpredictability has rubbed off. “The thing about coming from Brum is you’re in bloody good company” explains bassist Nick Smith, “I guess all the greats from Birmingham had to play their way out!”. Nick’s been playing with Glory’s drummer Grant for the last few years and they’ve continued to grow tighter and tighter as a rhythm section. Meanwhile, drummer Grant, though vastly experienced on the kit, cut his metal teeth with London’s slowest doom merchants, Sloth signed to Cathedral’s legendary frontman Lee Dorian’s label, Rise Above. But with Crowning Glory his style is anything but slow think the primal attack of Motorhead’s Phil ‘Animal’ Taylor combined with the Rock ‘n’ Roll flair of Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee and you’ve got the picture. Crowning Glory however would not be complete without their all riffing, all shredding, all headbanging, hair-monster guitarist, Tom Draper. Throughout the ages rock and metal has thrown up a glut of legendary guitarists; it’s no exaggeration to say that Tom Draper’s articulate yet powerful understanding of his instrument is up there with the best of ‘em - imagine the pompous swagger of the ‘80’s US hard rock invasion, think Crue, Skid Row et al, and mix it with the honest, gritty, beer fuelled sound of the NWOBHM, and you’re close! Throw in a bit of Kyuss for good measure and you’re closer still. “We’ve got a load of killer tunes, four lads that would die for the band and nothing to lose. All we want people to do now is look and listen, we’ll do the rest.” Don your Denim, strap on your leather and march forth to Glory!
