SOON IT WILL BE CHRISTMAS TIME

SOON IT WILL BE CHRISTMAS TIME - NEW 'torch' jazz type Christmas song by Richard..FREE DOWNLOAD..I actually wrote the lyrics thinking about the kids stuck in IRAQ that won't be home for Christmas.
A variety of musical influences can be seen in the music recorded by this band. Some of the materials on this site have only recently been made available on CD. The oldest members of this group have been in the music scene since the mid 60's. An interesting mix of rock, jazz, folk, county, bluegrass and surf make this a great treat for all listeners. The lyrics and music in the early years were mostly written by the prolific STEVENS & RICHARD song writing team and in the later years most of the music was written by Richard himself. Bob Stevens Fela and Richard were founding members of the 60's rock group KROP later known as the GRAPES OF WRATH along with keyboardist Gary Culotta, Joe Brongo on bass guitar and drummer John DeBernardo (Debo) all hailing from ROCHESTER, NY. Stevens and Richard formed a duo called Stevens & Richard (imagine that) after the demise of Grapes of Wrath. Richard C. Richardson is the founding member and can be heard on guitars, bass, banjo, drums, keys, percussion and vocals. Kim Richardson is on keyboards and vocals.
Band/artist history
COVERT SOUNDS ARE RICHARD'S WORLD A variety of musical influences can be seen in the music recorded by this band. Richard was a member for a few years of the group KENNY B & THE STINGERS home based in OVID, NY. Featuring Kenny Belanger on guitar and, Gar Belanger on drums and sax master Fluffy Saccucci, and recorded a few interesting songs with them. We've placed a few Kenny Bee songs, Rubber Band songs and Richie Roccisano songs on our vault site at: KROPSONGS Richard was a founding member of the CNY Classic Rock group RUBBER BAND in the late 80's and 90's along with Richie Roccisano , Sam and Rod Ungleich, Steve Peck and Kenny Christianson. RB had many sit in players during the 20 year existence of the group, including Ron Brock , Mike Richardson . Rubber Band was an interesting group where on any given night as many as 14 players would be found on stage. RUBBER BAND played mostly in the Ithaca, Elmira, Geneva and other Finger Lakes clubs. Richard performed solo acoustic for many years prior to and during the incarnation of Rubber Band. RUBBER BAND Also during this time, Richard was a founding member of the Progressive Rock Bands 3 STORIES UP & CRITICAL MASS. CM came into existence and recorded only one CD which is a highly valued commodity including such unique tracks as; Party With The President, Take A Chance, Information Station, Who Ya Gonna Blame, Hunnaberries, Hot Rod Chevy just to name a few. Members of that band included Richard, Steve Peck, Gary Evans, Ken Herndon, Ken Christianson. Richie Roccisano, who is currently working as session guitarist with the Hadlock Band, recording another HADLOCK CD, joined the band after the departure of keyboardist Gary Evans to take on sax, keyboard and guitar work. We are also currently working on a re-release of the highly acclaimed Critical Mass CD and tracks will be made available for download and/or purchase by November of 2007. One more note, Richard and his wife, Kim Richardson, have been performing CHRISTMAS CONCERTS the past 5 years and we are planning on producing a LIVE Christmas Concert CD/DVD, which will be made available before Christmas. It would make a nice addition to anyone's Christmas CD collections. All material is copywrited by Richardson Music of Interlaken, NY. Any artists interested in using any of the music can contact Richard, we have a catalog of well over a 100 original songs available. Thanks for taking the time to read this....Richard

Your musical influences
To list all of the influences would take numerous pages and hours to read, so I'll just mention a few. From the 50's you can see the influence of the LAMBERT, HENDRICKS and ROSS as well as the Everly Brothers with the tight harmonies. Of course the great LES PAUL and MARY FORD pioneering the multitrack recording at home. MOSE ALLISON has to be mentioned as well, with great bluesy jazz performances and vocals. From the 60's the Brittish Invasion is certainly evident as well including the Beatles, Bee Gees , ZOMBIES, Rolling Stones, Animals and of course Pink Floyd. Also American groups such as the Young Rascals, CSNY, Paul Simon, America etc.. 70's influences were mostly dominated by the great singer songwriters of the era, James Taylor, Carol King, Neil Young, Eagles and many more. Of course the 80's was the Hair Days with influences by Motley Crue, Poison, Guns & Roses and all the other great Metal groups. I do believe though that probably the most influential guitar player was DON POTTER from Glen Falls, NY's. His vocals would stand up the hair on your back. The acoustic guitar work is outstanding, whether fingerpicking or strumming. Don, along with BAT McGRATH who is also a great songwriter, singer and musician, recorded a number of albums together, solo and with CHUCK MANGIONE. Don was musical director for the JUDDS at one time and still produces his own works on a Christian Label. Don is just a great player/singer/minister who can do it all. Greatest Jazz influence was the fabulous jazz guitarist, DICK LONGALE of Rochester New York. Dick was pretty much a loner who taught jazz guitar at his house and rarely ventured out. Without a doubt, one of the greatest jazz players and teachers of all time. His voicing on the guitar were just unbelievable, the type of player that everyone that knew him or heard him play, was in awe. The influences were many that shaped this band. From ASTRUD GILBERTO, CHET BAKER, STAN GETZ, JOE PASS to the ANIMALS, BEATLES, ZOMBIES, and many many more.
What equipment do you use?
Acoustic Guitars are a Washburn WD200 and a Yamaha JG200... Electric Guitars are a Fender Stratocaster, Fender Strat HM, Washburn J3...Banjo is a Peerless 5 string 220M, Bass is a Washburn 5 string, Drums are Roland Digital Drums and an acoustic set of Ludwig's.... Amplifiers are an old Alamo 3 tube amp, an old Epiphone Superba amp (for the retro surf sounds) and a Boss GX700.... I have much more equipment, but
Anything else?
Sounds Like A mixture of EVERYTHING...... From the bouncy good times bluegrass style found on GUESS YOU'RE GOING TO MISS ME and BEAUTIFUL DAY, to the gloomy dark sounding Title Track COME OF AGE. When you hear the whole album, you might be amused with a few of the tracks that were written for other singers and artists back in the late 60's and 70's, including songs such as BREEZE that has that Big Band feel and MY CONCERN that has that old late 50's surf sounds. Other tracks on the "COME OF AGE" CD are MAYBE I DON'T WANT MUCH (a blues jazzy tune), STILL FEEL THE MAGIC, NO REGRETS, TWO PEOPLE, WE'VE GOT TO DO SOMETHING, DEEP WITHIN YOUR MIND (another dark, gloomy sounding tune ), , STILL WANT YOUR LOVE, STATEMENT OF TRUTH and a few more interesting songs. Richard makes use of many different chord structures, major and minor 7th, 9ths, 13ths, 6ths, diminished and augmented chords that give the songs a different feel and texture than the ordinary three chord rock and roll arangements. The cuts you are hearing are the original rough drafts of the material, before editing, that will be on the CD's, so excuse any errors.
