Band/artist history
Coram Deo was formed in October 2001 when singer/songwriter and guitarist Katrina Lunceford began practicing and performing at Des Moines coffee shops with an accompanying guitarist and bassist. In February of 2002 Nate Womacks, a friend of the guitarist began practicing with the band and agreed to be the full time drummer. Nate's forceful drumming added a new and expanded sound to the acoustic rock of Coram Deo, opening up the possibility of playing larger venues. In the summer of 2002 Coram Deo took their sound to a bigger stage, performing at radio station KZZQ's battle of the bands and winning first place. Working through musical changes in late 2002, Kat and Nate became the sole members of Coram Deo. Continuing to practice and pray together, Nate and Kat found themselves developing a strong sense of purpose and a tight musical groundwork throughout the last half of 2002. In February of 2003 Coram Deo had been practicing for over six months without playing out, desiring a bass player before performing again. When asked to play a Valentine's Day event Nate and Kat went out on a limb and committed to the show, having faith a bass player would be provided. While doing errands with her husband the next morning Kat shared the need for a bass player with another shopper while waiting in the checkout line. The shopper mentioned "the best bass player in Iowa" played on his church's praise team in Marshalltown, and that Kat ought to give him a call. On this suggestion, Nate and Kat met with bassist Doug Norton and proposed he play with them at the upcoming show. Doug agreed, learned all of their songs in two weeks, and joined Coram Deo after successfully playing the Valentine's Day show. With the addition of Doug's dynamic bass playing, Coram Deo continued to play at local clubs, youth events and churches around Iowa. In the fall of 2003 Coram Deo began to advertise and interview for an electric guitar player. Not quickly finding one, the band played on through the winter, waiting patiently for the right fit. In March of 2004 one of the advertisements was seen at a local guitar shop by Paul Gratton. Paul had seen Coram Deo play a year earlier and was impressed by their passion and integrity. After meeting the band for supper and a rehearsal jam, Paul accepted the invitation to join the band as the lead guitarist. With Paul's edgy guitar work, the Coram Deo sound has grown to include the intensity the band has long desired to deliver. Since March of 2004 the foursome of Coram Deo have been polishing their set of soulful songs, playing festivals, coffee shops and events throughout the Midwest. Blending rock n' roll and R&B, Coram Deo continues to create music based on deep faith and conviction.
