Cooshee play energetic and melodic rock with unusual originality. They write memorable and thoughtful songs full of feeling and power, but all express a hard edge. They are a band not afraid to experiment, and this makes Cooshee very hard to pigeon hole.Band/artist history
Cooshee originate from Ottery St. Mary in East Devon. They have been together and gigging for two years, but changed line up in the summer of 2001, with the addition of Stuart Mitchell as Drummer. Cooshee started out as a covers band, playing local pubs, but as their own material started to take shape, it was clear they were destined for bigger things.
Since Stuart's arrival, Cooshee have been concentrating on writing and rehearsing new material , and began gigging again at the end of 2001.
In August 2002 the second of two EPs was finished. Entitled the Freak E.P., and containing some of their newer tracks, and certainly the strongest, the CD was created primarily to reply to a request from EMI:Chrysalis for their new material.
Cooshee are unusual in that they record and produce all of their material themselves, something which has meant that their songs are represented as the band want them to be heard, and not how a studio producer thinks they should sound.Have you performed in front of an audience?Cooshee are trying to gig as much as possible in the south west (UK) and this will hopefully lead on to gigs in London, which is the aim for this year.
Your musical influences
Cooshee's songs are very varied in style, mostly because different members write different songs at differnet times. But they do bare some resemblances to bands like Feeder, Hundred Reasons and on occasion bands like Staind. What equipment do you use?
Cooshee always record and produce their own recordings, as Guy their bassist, is also a sound engineer. This means that Cooshee's recordings have a characteristic sound, something which is certainly easier to do if you are producing your own songs.Anything else?
Cooshee's serious promotion attempts have started to pay off with a demo request from EMI:Chrysalis records. They have also been invited to contribute to a Matchbox Recordings unsigned band compilation, details of which will be available here when they are known.
