Co.Z is a new age hip hop rhythm and pop group made up of two young do-it-yourselfers with a unique sound and image. The pair write, produce, record, mix and master their own songs, design their own album art work, and have even been know to arrange photo shoots in the wild. Although they can act autonomously, they have no fear of collaboration, and try to incorporate aspects of many different styles of art and music into their own adding their personal Co.Z spin. While holding on to the sometimes hard hitting sounds of hip hop, the almost too catchy riffs of pop, and the gotta-have-it bass lines and vocal rolls of r&b and neo-soul, Co.Z breaks away from the overplayed lyrical content and the re-run public images seen in much of todays music. Company ZoJa are distracted students, former equestrians, thespians, ryhmers and rhythmers, bridging coasts and musical styles to bring you eclectic electric sound art for the new age.
Band/artist history
Co.Z is made up of Zoë Chao and Jack Horkings. The two have been making songs together since the spring of 2008. Zoë Chao graduated from Brown University and now attends graduate school at the University of California in San Diego for acting. Jack Horkings currently attends Brown University, interested in electronic music and multimedia, and probably some cop-out business minor. Both are heavily involved in acting and visual art, as well as music. Zoë has been a member of a number of a cappella ensembles, and has also been involved with multiple dance groups (providing the Co.Z hop). Jack has been writing and recording songs since 2004, and began making music slightly more recently (providing the Co.Z hip). The odd and outlandish hobbies inhabiting the lives of Co.Z provide fuel for interesting and diverse conceptualization in their art, self-image, and music. In the fall of 2008, Co.Z (then known as ZoJa) released the song Handyman, which received very encouraging reviews from friends, family, and even a good number of real people. Co.Z is now hard at work producing a new album, with two songs already complete, prepared to be blasted from cars, dorm rooms and headphones into your ears. Although most of the continental United States separates the two, the Company has found ways to be in two places at once using the combined wonders of computer machines and the internet and are still producing, writing and recording together.
