Command Presence
Command Presence is a collection of friends who have been playing music together for the past 10 years.
They're style is a munge of Death Metal and 80's Thrash Metal. Added is a flare of the "New England" style of metal. The band prefers to declare themselves as...
"The Exclusive Purveyors of Advanced Narragansett Bay Area Thrash Metal."
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
What began as three friends in high school trying to “make something happen,” COMMAND PRESENCE has grown to a five-piece "Narragansett Bay Area" Thrash monster. The members of COMMAND PRESENCE have known each other and played music together since early childhood, starting with just Kyle McGruther, Ben Quay, and Wood, under the name of Onslaught.
In 1995 the band welcomed Steve Brown (also a long time friend) as lead guitarist. Steve added a new facet to the songwriting and performance of the group. Over the next two years the future of the band was in doubt, as the members became spread out by college. In 1998 Mike Oldford joined on bass, and live experience was gained from small local shows as the group worked on new material. In 2000 the group assumed the name COMMAND PRESENCE, and began recording their debut album.
Later that year Mike parted ways with the group, and Carlton Cobb stepped into the bassless void. As of late, COMMAND PRESENCE has performed at many high profile festivals, including Metal Meltdown III, Snakenet's The Gathering (metal nation I), the Milwaukee Metalfest's XV & XVI. MMF XV and Metal Nation III. These were special times in the band's history when their debut album and follow up EP, Inherit The Meek and The Danger Sessions, respectively, were released.
This past year has been filled with the joy of 2 members having children, but also had the loss of Kyle, vocalist, to a philosophical whim. Now that the immediate horror and lifestyle adjustments therein have subsided, the band is back in Providence, RI's "Danger Multitrack" recording their second full-length album with new gut-rumbling vocalist, Kurly. This as-of-yet untitled album is looking for a release in the Spring of 2005.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Command Presence performs live when the band feels that they are in the best possible shape. Instead of over-saturating the club scene every weekend, they opt to perform sparingly and to make each performance a performance to remember.
