Hello. We are two 18 year old singer/songwriters/guitar players/losers(except for Ben)/friends/enemies from Pittsburgh, Pa. We sit in Ben's house in our recording studio and write, play and record songs all and every day. Colin is a kid who is classicly trained in french horn and trumpet. He has also taken many theory classes and thinks that he always knows what he is doing. Ben is a go-kart racer who, besides playing guitar, plays the saxaphone. Ben is the main recorder, and always thinks he knows what he is doing, so you can see the unusual situation they have. They fight all of the time, but, for the most part, get along very well. A wierd kind of love/hate relationship, without the love.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We have played live before with such musicians as Liz Khlem, Danny Gurwin, Matt Meister, Kyle Smetanka, Joe Stoy, and Abby Balik. It's okay if you've never heard of these people. They're not famous either. We don't play live a lot, because we spend most of our time practicing. You would think we would be awesome with all this practice, but don't get your hopes up. The real, underlying reason we (Colin and Ben)don't play live is because Ben doesn't play well with others. He and I play very well together, and can anticipate each others' moves, but throw anyone else into the mix, and it gets very uncomfortable. To be honest, Ben is kind of a weird kid. It took me(Colin) years of playing with him every day to be able to put up with him. Listen to him talk and you'll understand what I mean.
Your musical influences
Our influences include Ben Kweller, Sonic Youth, the Pixies, the Flaming Lips, the Stereophonics, The Eagles, Weezer, AC/DC, Damien Rice, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Goo Goo Dolls, Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton (only in Cream and the Yardbirds, not as a soloist, he sucks then), and some others we wouldn't care to talk about.
What equipment do you use?
Colin plays an Ibanez Artcore with a Bigsby and some Grover tuners. He is also building a flying V. When he plays bass, he either uses a Fender Active Jazz Bass, Kramer headless Duke, or Ben's brother's bass, a Squier Bronco bass. Don't be fooled. This bass sounds incredible most of the time, plus with the short scale, it feels like a guitar. Now, Ben is the master of equipment. He has built two guitars, a Jazzmaster copy, and kind of a Jagmaster replica. Both killer axes, but nothing compared to his third. A Line 6 Variz 500, a modeling guitar that sounds just like a strat, tele, ricky, les paul, hollowbody, acoustic, banjo, sitar, you name it. Incredible. He also plays an old Yamaha grand auditorium-body acoustic with a fishman piezo pickup. His amps include a vintage Ampeg all tube 60-watt, with three channels. Cranks like nobody's business. And he also has a vintage 1980's Roland Jazz-Chorus with 2 12's. Very nice. Now for recording, we use primarily a Yamaha AW16G digital recorder. We also use Cakewalk Sonar3, Propellorhead Reason 2.5, Acid Pro, and, of course, Fruiy Loops, the greatest virtual drum machine ever created. We use a large diaphragm Audio-Technica, large and small diaphram Oktavas, Shure SM57, SM86, and PG57. We also have a CAD live vocal mic but hate it. We stole it.
Anything else?
Don't hate us from our pictures, or from our songs, or from our biography, or from our influences. That's pretty much everything, but send us an email, or give me(Colin) a call. We'll talk, go out for coffee and chit-chat, and it will blossom into a wonderful relationship. As for Ben, you'll have to take my word when I say don't even get close to him. Don't even make eye-contact. He's very weird, and makes people extremely frustrated, including me. He's a nice kid, though. He's really okay. I love you, Ben.
