Coldspoon
Coldspoon were formed in 2005 when Jan, Jaani and Jack got a place to rehearse in an area called Vallila in Helsinki, Finland. Later that same year Jocke, who the guys knew from previous projects, happened to be looking for a new band (previously Bogislaus in Central Europe) and joined COLDSPOON as their new drummer.
Very quickly the different musical styles of the four Js were mixed together into something that is still hard to categorize (comparisons range from Chris Cornell to U2 to old Iggy Pop). The guys played their first show on 14 January 2006 at the Club Turkoosi in the centre of Helsinki. The reception was simply amazing!
The year 2006 was favourable, to say the least, for COLDSPOON. Aside from playing shows, the group took part in two different band contests. The first was the international Music Festival Emergenza where they grabbed third position on a national level, and the last, was the tough HertasRock that COLDSPOON won! At the latter a female member of the jury said: “I could give it to the singer”.
Although the band contests gave a great opportunity to play major rock clubs in Helsinki the group decided not to take part in such events again and wanted to concentrate on the most important thing: making music.
Late 2006 the band recorded their promo EP with four tracks which was captured in record time at Studio Artlab located next to their rehearsal room. CD Release Party was held at Club Liberté in Helsinki where the atmosphere was intoxicating. The band played an energetic set but the last song ended abruptly, as Jocke smashed his drum kit Keith Moon-style and decided there will be no encores Thank you!
Year 2007 will be business as usual. Shows will be played at least in Finland and interest has grown outside the country’s borders too. The summer will be busy recording new material. Keep your eyes and ears open, COLDSPOON is gonna come and lift your testicles!
