Band/artist history

The year was 1996. Three young men came together against the backdrop of a warm Nebraska summer, the United States Olympic Volleyball Team and one very cold house. Their names were Joe Biesterfeld, Troy Christensen and Jason Grotelueschen, and over the next two years they would launch an Acoustic Rock revolution like the world had never seen. China Digs was born.

After gaining a small but loyal following with their early live shows, 1997 brought about the recording of their first album, "looking for george..." It also brought the addition of a new member, Diane Prokop, who added violin, tanbourine and vocals to their already unique sound. More live shows followed, including the now infamous impromptu Halloween show, a 3,000-member audience on the campus of the University Of Nebraska, and 2 shows at the world famous Zoo Bar.

All the while, China Digs continued to produce new music, but time and money prevented them from recording another album. By 1998, pressures of the road and personal commitments were starting to wear on Jason, Joe, Diane and Troy, and by the end of May they had played their last show.
