The cultural soil that made the blues great has all been plowed down to sterile ground and eroded away down the long Mississippi. So the challenge for a band like Cherri and the Violators is to reinvent the blues and bring something fresh to the table. Happily, even triumphantly, the band has done just that on an album that manages to be both experimental in its reach while saying something new. The Benzie/Manistee County-based band labels their music "contemporary blues," and you have to hand it to them: they have succeeded in slapping the paddles on the old zombie blues and reviving it as their own personal creation with songwriting that is exceptionally strong.
Band/artist history
CNV formed in 2000, with original members Cheryl & Paul Bendig. The current lineup includes Hank Cupp on percussion & Herb Cottier on lead guitar. The band released "First Offense" in 2004, and immediately began work on "Empty Pockets", released in 2005, and "Processed American Blues Product" in 2007.

Throughout Northern Michigan. Live performance is always special.

Vocally, Pat Benatar, Shemekia Copeland, Susan Tedeschi, Heart. Instrumentally, blues rock and rock bands such as SRV, Foghat, ZZ Top, Lucinda Williams.

Hello Cherri! Haven't been on SC for some time, but I've been sitting here blasting out and rockin' to 'Cherri and the Violators!!!!' Your vocals are to die for. You have some great backup there too :) I have a lot of respect for the Blues artists from MI. I've traveled a lot in 28 years on the road and can always find some great Blues just on the FM dial. Anyway, our rockin' blues band is shaping up and hope to sound similar to you some year :) Keep up the great work. Hope to hear you on the XM radio station 'Bluesville' sometime. Been a while and I needed a little blues fix. I had to leave Michigan and get back in the south-land where snow is not such a commodity.

Awesomely kick _ss blues tune! 5 stars all the way. Lived this song....too much, so really feelin it. Love the lyrics, that voice ROCKS, and love the slinky guitar lines. Do you guys ever play in Wisconsin at all? Bet you are great live. Take care and keep on keepin on! ;)
