Cheese is a Philippine-based band. The band performs at local clubs in the urban area of Quezon City/Manila Under Warner Music (Philippines), Cheese has released two albums and a third is currently on the way.
It all started in 1995 when Enzo Ruidera, Tuts Calinawan, and two other high school friends decided to form a band. About a year later, Paolo Rosal took on the duty of drummer. However, after two years of playing, the group lost two of its members. It was a big blow considering one of them was the vocalist.
Ian Tayao (first cousin of Paolo and who was then the vocalist for the now defunct band, Gothic Guilt) was recruited to fill in those missing vocals which helped evolve the band's sound to what it is now: a sound influenced by punk, funk, rock, hip hop, trash, and metal.
Cheese also recruited, CJ Olaguera (also a cousin to Ian and Paolo) on Percussion and RT Deano on turntables. And after hearing the band during a club gig, Paolo Toleran auditioned and joined Cheese as a guitarist as well.
After frequent gigs at underground concerts, schools, parties and clubs, Cheese developed their own cult following. The following grew even bigger after the release of Cheese's independent two-song EP and regular airplay of one of its songs "Fine". As a result, Warner Music Philippines decided to sign with them on June 1999 thereby resulting in their first self-titled album, Cheese.
Three years of playing in and around manila and the provinces, from north to south. Cheese returned to the studio to record their sophomore album, by December of 2001 the band finished recording Pilipinas and by January of 2002 it was released.
After the completion of the second album, the band bid farewell to turntablist RT Deano and later drummer Pow Rosal. However, despite obstacles, they continue on strong towards the release of their third album, with the help of two new recruits, Biboy Garcia on turntables and Robert dela Cruz on drums.
Currently the band is in the studio working on their third effort and will probably release a third album early or mid-2004.
