Charlie Wayne's musical journey has been marked by success in both Rock & Country music - a gold record for his participation in the hard-rock outfit BulletBoys, and a Top 40 Country single ("Raised On Country"). The new KEEL & WAYNE duo project is Charlie's brainchild, grown out of a desire to team up with an old friend with a similar background and style and combine their talents. Band/artist history
Charlie Wayne " Reaching for the Stars with Heavenly Grace" THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT FOR CHARLIE WAYNE & CRAWDAD CREEK This year has been a bright one for Charlie Wayne and his band Crawdad Creek. They've got two huge singles, "The Crawdad Song" and " Raised On Country" out on radio and are getting ready to launch a third song "Heavenly Grace" from their soon to be released CD on Door Knob Records. They've also been doing a lot of TV and are getting ready to do a morning show on FOX 17. As Wayne puts it, " I've had the pleasure of meeting Crystal Gayle, Keith Urban and other big country stars, all thanks to my manager Gene Kennedy. Our Fan Club is growing fast with hardcore Charlie Wayne & Crawdad Creek fans." Once a West Coast Rock-Star, Charlie Wayne is about to take off again with his unique Country Southern Rock sound. THE FAMILY CONNECTION There's a long musical history behind Charlie Wayne & Crawdad Creek. And the name of that tune goes something like this: at the tender age of five , Wayne got his first musical instruments...a harmonica and an old Sears Silver Tone guitar. Before that he was banging on everything with a wooden spoon...pots, pans whatever ( and by the way his little son seems to be following in his father's footsteps). His own father Charlie Gail who played with Freddie Hart who performed with Waylon Jennings and Barbara Mandrell. Wayne tells us "I loved playing with my grandpa and my dad at Bluegrass hoe-downs, even if I was making up my own chords." Soon this Inglewood, California native began playing in bands like Pacific Breakwater, a Beach-Boys type group, then he went on to join Lonnie Vincent's High Times band. Next he got his big gig when he played at Gazzari's on Sunset Strip. After that he performed in some of the top clubs in L.A s West End with the Bullet Boys and bands comprised of members from Guns "N" Roses, Poison and Keel and King Cobra. BACK TO HIS ROOTS In 1995 Charlie Wayne packed up his guitars, songs and family and moved to Nashville, TN. "After All," he says, "......this is where some of the world's best musicians reside." And so he formed the band Charlie Wayne & Crawdad Creek, forsaking his hard rock edge for a mix of Country and Southern Rock. The band is comprised of Wayne on Lead Guitar, and Vocals sister Kitty Wayne on Back-Up Vocals ,son CJ (Charlie JR) on Drums, Susie Monic on Banjo and Squeeze-Box, with newcomers Tisha Simeral on Bass, and Matt Menard on Mandolin & Fiddle, "The great thing about my band Crawdad Creek is that we're a real band," he says."We're just like family, that gives us a certain edge, we don't sound like any other group and our live shows are the icing on the cake." You'll think so too, when you see them perform. The band is full of energy as are the sizzling guitar work and charismatic vocals of Charlie Wayne. He'll remind you a little Rod Stewart. Gene Kennedy, owner of Door Knob Records, thinks so too. As the group's manager and producer, this major award-winning sound engineer, producer, and record promoter, has already charted two singles, "The Crawdad Song" and the title song "Raised On Country" off their soon to be released CD. It's predicted that the next single charter will be "Heavenly Grace" penned by Wayne, Dan Wunsch and Todd Willand. Charlie Wayne had this to say about Gene Kennedy. " Gene's great attitude and love for the music is astonishing, plus he really believes in what I am doing, he makes my professional life easier. The main thing about my career and the band now is professional consistency and my never give up attitude." LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL Charlie Wayne's star is definitely on the rise!!! At a recent full house performance at Douglas Corner, veteran Music Row executive Ken Kittenger presented Charlie Wayne with a Gold Record Award which he won when he was with Bullet Boys. The group will be appearing on FOX 17 TV, "Raised On Country" is #36 on the charts, and their new CD is about to be released in the early Fall. Charlie's concert at Douglas Corner September 24th was another sold out success. Charlie Wayne, along with his music, is also quite the family man. He is devoted to his wife Kelly, kids and family who support him totally, especially his mother who has taught him never to give up and always follow his dreams. Wayne does have an attitude, but is humble when it comes to his success . "I couldn't have done it without my band-members, my mentor Gene Kennedy, the radio stations who play my records, and new friends Ken Kittenger, Jack Lamar, Matt Evens, Rusty Carr and the staff at The Nashville Music Guide, I thank them all." With the kind support from all levels. Door Knob Records looks like it has a bright new star with Charlie Wayne & Crawdad Creek. You'll be a believer, too, once you've heard their music and seen them perform. They're a group NOT to be missed. guitar player magazine Charlie Wayne and Ron Keel of KEEL AND WAYNE land new guitar endorsement with DEAN GUITARS When I was 16 years old I was in Van Nuys CA and seen a canary yellow Dean Flying V, it was rotating in the window so from the car window I could see every angle-I HAD TO HAVE IT. We were poor at the time and the guitar was 1100.00 dollars. My Mom took out a loan for the amount of the guitar and within a couple of days she drove me down and the DEAN FLYING V was ALL MINE! Back then I was only a teenager but I was in a top drawing band called BLACK KNIGHT that lead me to the gig with HAWK that featured Doug Marks, Scott Travis, Lonnie Vincent and myself, back then I went by my real name Charles Morrill, of course by now the year 2005 I've recorded and produced over 15 records most in which I was singer and writer, I've got 6 gold record awards for my efforts. I had lots of guitar companies behind me in the past but none has taken better care of me than the wonderful people at DEAN GUITARS. I got to thank Mick, that guy is the best . some of you may or may not know that Ron Keel and I have teamed up for this awsome new vocal duo KEEL AND WAYNE. We have been on a U.S. Tour, in the studio and getting ready to shoot a huge music video. DEANS EXOTICA ACOUSTIC line are totally bad ass, they have a sweet sweet big tone wether your plugged in or just sitting around the house. The looks of them speak for their self TOTALLY AWSOME. So If you want a guitar that can keep up with brands like Taylor or Gibson for a reasonable price go the DEAN. Thanks Charlie Wayne http://www.keelandwayne.com/ from KEEL AND WAYNE --guitar player magazine
