Charity Kase
Hey there, and welcome to Charity Kase. were a up and coming act that has been together for a few months now, but don't let our age fool you were here to stay and here to play.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
On Guitar and lead Vocals, Kelly Pennycook coming from an acoustic folk background she spent nearly a decade as a solo artist playing gigs at local Oakville bars and festivals. She was searching for a rhythm section to back up her musical styling, but her search yielded only disappointment. Then on Feb 11 2005 Kelly traveled to Toronto to check out the band Wake.
On this particular night Mike Marrello had come out to support Wake who he knew from the rehearsal factory where they practiced. Mike had moved to Toronto from Winnipeg a year before, he had chosen to make to move in order to search for a band to contribute to.
And to close up the line up that fateful night Dave Pake, a drummer who eats and breaths music had decided to check out Wake. Dave had moved to Toronto from rural Ontario and was living in an eight by eight foot drum room, also trying to start his own band but finding it difficult to find committed musicians.
Kelly, Mike and Dave had all known each other before this night but it was at the urging of Johnny Goltz that the trio join forces and play a show the following month at a the Volume Lounge.
And Charity Case was born . . .
Right from day one the chemistry between the trio was staggering. They remain ready and willing to play anytime anywhere, and they don’t even have a full set yet. But they are definitely an act to keep an eye on.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
