The Catler Brothers play instrumental music in the tuning system known as Just Intonation, using refretted guitars with 64-tones to the octave as well as fretless guitar and bass. The music uses notes, chords, and melodies never heard before. The Catler Brothers have been playing together for many years, and their telepathic interplay is evident on recordings like 'Crash Landing'. They have toured the world with legendary composer La Monte Young in the Forever Bad Blues Band and have appeared in many festivals in Europe and the U.S.
Band/artist history
The Catler Bros. started in Massachusetts in 1970. They became the town band and performed all over the East Coast. Brothers Jon and Brad moved to NYC in the early 80's and played in the band The Microtones, using 31-tone equal temperament and releasing the vinyl 'Cowpeople'. Jon hooked up with La Monte Young in the 80's, and in 1990 the Bros. became founding members of the Forever Bad Blues Band. In 1996 the Catler Bros. released the CD 'Crash Landing' on FreeNote Records ij49-tone Just Intonation tuning.
