THE STORY SO FAR.....
Rob and Jo Curtis formed Castaway Entertainments in the year 2001 due to their mutual love of music and singing. Rob is originally from North London and Jo hails from Rochdale in Lancashire, where they both reside at present.
They began singing at an early age in both school and church choirs and unbeknown to them they had actually vied against each other in a schools choir competition back in 1982 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
Their lives progressed with neither of them actually pursuing a musical career until, in 2001 their paths crossed again at a party held by a mutual friend. They hit it off immediately and have been inseparable ever since.
The formation of the company came about a few months later with the realisation that they both shared the same devotion to music.
In Spring 2001 after a night out watching a local cabaret act they returned home, discussed what they had seen and came to the conclusion that if that was supposedly the best of local talent then they should give it a go themselves as they were convinced that they could do better.
After spending the Summer months visiting numerous venues in the North-West of England for the sole purpose of Market Research and being totally taken aback by the friendliness and helpfulness of many different artistes they decided to give it a go.
They have had numerous residencies doing karaoke, which has been their bread and butter as this is their full time career. They have also gigged at many pubs, clubs and hotels in and around the North -West, singing together as a duo.
The majority of the songs they perform are sung together as there is a special chemistry between them, which becomes apparent on stage.
And the rest...as they say......Have you performed in front of an audience?We play all around the north west, we love every minute of it, if you stop enjoying it then that would be the time to give up!!!!!
Your musical influences
Robs biggest influence was Bob Marley, Jo's was a punk in her youth but luckily this hasnt influenced what she now sings!!!!! We both love all different genres of music and adapt really easily, we sing songs from Bobby Darin, Judas Priest, Shaggy, Robbie Williams and lots of others.... All Genre's ....All Era's..we'll try anything once..Oh did we mention we are with a RnB/Blues band as well..'the music we do with them is another story'What equipment do you use?
We sing off backing tracks through a warrior mixer amp, 2x350 watt speakers with sure sm58 cordless microphonesAnything else?
We spent last night in a recording studio in manchester called the cutting rooms... it was our first time...WHAT A BUZZ....cant wait to do it again!!!!!kaz1985's station
