"So what do you love about music?" "To begin with? Everything."
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I always wanted to be involved with films and used to play around with video etc, sometimes I would compose bits of music for those things. I tried writing a couple of screenplays but kind of ran into a brickwall when it came to "what do I do now?" The wonderful thing about music is that I can genuinely do everything myself, in my own time, in my own space, and when I am finished, it is a complete product. I think that is why I decided to focus on music in the end. I heard a number of artists in the early 2000s - Janis Ian, Cat Stevens, Raphaël Haroche, and Smoosh to name a few - that made me realise how powerful a song can be and that it was something I could maybe do. I hope I wasn't wrong!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I play frequently now in the virtual world Second Life as Casper Paperdoll. I mainly do cover songs there and view the sessions as much as a way of practicing regularly as a way to find new fans who might then wish to find my original work on iTunes etc. I plan to ultimately perform much more original material there and, once I feel I have a real "act", to take it into the real world. Who knows how long this will take though - I am very happy with the way things are.
Your musical influences
Too many to mention - anything from The Beatles up to Smoosh ... I dislike referring to genres and prefer to simply say that if an artist or song is GOOD then it will probably influence me somehow. I definitely prefer more slickly produced stuff, however, which probably explains my weakness for Disney Channel teen pop :)
What equipment do you use?
I control Pianoteq (a physically-modelled piano software instrument) in FL Studio 9 with a CME 88-key semi-weighted controller. Most other sounds come from Sampletank.
