Burnt Taters
"STRANGE BUT TRUE is an absolute winner"
---Billboard Magazine, July 8, 2000
"Think Beatles For Sale if Marty Robbins were a primary influence instead of Carl Perkins... the Tater reference Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Hank Williams in their songs. But they owe perhaps their greatest musical debt to Roy Orbison. Craig Evans' crystalline tenor deserves to be mentioned as a worthy heir to Orbison's legacy." ---No Depression, Nov. 2000
"The Taters display a deft touch for gleaning the very best of American roots-rock and rockabilly and delivering it with thoroughly modern, totally hip sensibilities."
---Billboard Magazine (review of 1st CD)
"The trio combines classic country, classic rock and pure pop influences, and comes out with a mix similar to what you'd hear if Hank Williams and the Everly Brothers combined forces in the '90s."
---Bill Craig, Richmond Times Dispatch
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The Taters are 3 in number:
Craig Evans - Vocals, bass, piano, accordion, melodica
Brad Tucker - Vocals, all things guitar
Chris Fuller - Vocals, mandolin, guitar
With STRANGE BUT TRUE, their newest release on Planetary Records (PLANETARY #9022), The Taters continue to explore and expand their collective musical palette. Combining elements of classic country and rock, American roots, and pure pop "without a trace of self-consciousness or pretension, the Taters draw up a three-man formula that can rightly be claimed as their own" (Gordon Ely, Billboard Magazine). When you hear the final product, though, you realize you're not listening to another retro band, but something new - a fresh mix. You'll recognize a lot of the individual flavors, but you've never tasted this combination before.
