We're a 5 piece alt. rock/screamo band from Eastern PA. We've been together for 2 and a half years with a few different lineups and two name changes. Our singer is Drew Senko. Steve Nace and Jon Andrew handle the guitars. Dave Martnick plays bass for our band. And William Shupp is the drummer for Burning Down Centralia.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
In the summer of 2002 Jonathan Andrew, Dylan Wilkinson and William Shupp decided they would like to start a band. First, however, William needed to get a drumset...so...he got one. Steven Nace had been teaching Jon how to play guitar so they decided to throw steve in the mix as a second guitarist. Unforunately Dylan learned that he would be moving to Philadelphia (a good hour and a half away from their hometown) over the summer. Steve, Jon, and Will were now left to themselves over the summer jamming to blink 182 cover songs in Will's basement. David Martnick was Steve's friend and next door neighbor and had brief experience on guitar and when he learned the Steve's band needed a bass player and his uncle had a bass he was willing to give to him he signed his name in blood(not really) and joined the band. Since noone else was willing to step up to vocalize Jon took the role. At this time they were known as Honest Mistake. They played their first show in Jan. of 2003 to the dismay of everyone at the show that night. After a while they went for a name change to Far From Over. They played a few shows under this name but after a while Steven Nace decided that we wasn't having much fun being in the band and left. Jon, Dave, and Will continued on as a three piece and played a few shows through the area under their new name Burning Down Centralia. During this time an amazing thing happened...Will found out he could sing. So Jonathan and Will shared vocal responsibilities during their venture as a three piece. After a while, however, they realized the vocal stuff just wasn't working. Jon wasn't much of a singer and Will would rather concentrate more on drumming then both singing and drumming at once. They went on a brief search and Drew Senko arrived at practice one day and next thing ya know he was a staple in BDC. After a few shows they thought it would be to their benefit to add another guitar player to add more depth to their music. They tried out one guitarist from the area but found that his taste in music varied from their own. After working out previous complications Steven Nace decided to rejoin the band. Since then BDC has been trying to get on as many shows as possible and working on demos to try and be taken under the wing of a record label...
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes we play live at various places ranging from clubs to firehalls to playgrounds. Anywhere we can get a show we play. Playing is deffinately one of the best if not the best parts about being in a band...especially when the crowd likes you. Our one show at a local firehall about a year ago sticks out in our minds as one of our best shows because the crowd was really energetic and just going crazy during our set. This was also our first show with Drew as our singer. (unforunately Steve Nace still wasn't in our band at the time) But we weren't sure how the crowd would react with Drew but it turned out to be one of our best shows to this date.
Your musical influences
We're into a variety of music. Anything from Slayer to Savage Garden inspires us (yeah we can't figure it out either). But in general we listen to the same types of music as far as bands like Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Senses Fail, and SAOSIN (check these guys out...it's good stuff)
