BULLY (NYC)
New York City's BULLY pound their influences -- The Beatles' harmonies, Black Sabbath's riffs, Led Zeppelin's soul and Nirvana's angst -- into a highly identifiable modern rock sound, laden with monolithic guitar riffs and in-your-face melodic hooks. Imagine the marijuana-damaged guitars of Queens of the Stone Age topped by the precision vocal harmonies of King's X and you'll be within spitting distance of BULLY's sonic signature.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
BULLY emerged in 2001 when Dan Karkos and brothers Matt and John Farley teamed up with guitarist, Scott Fletcher. The quartet instantly bonded when they plugged in...old, loud Gibsons and Fenders leading the way. They began forging an unmistakable sound with stellar four-part harmonies adding an almost unheard of, yet modern edge. Soon after a few songs were written, and the sound was established, the name BULLY surfaced.
In 2003, the group released their first full-length album Songs That Make You Cry on Underdog Records. To capture BULLYs raw, brazen form, outstanding vocals, tight musician-ship and powerful songwriting, Songs That Make You Cry was recorded almost entirely live in the studio.
Life isnt hard. Other people make your life hard! says BULLY of their intense debut album. Its a lot of real-life issues, a lot of real-life emotions. Some of the songs are about feeling used, being pushed to your absolute limits and finally, being sick of feeling that way. Produced by Brad Morrison, known for his work with such acts as The Figgs (Capitol Records) and Phish (Elektra Entertainment), the album has garnered rave reviews and is receiving airplay throughout the northeast.
Like their name, this New York-based bands music is a lesson in life, making BULLY one of the most distinctive and real bands of the new generation of hard rockers. The name says it all, says the band, and thats what we do, we are the purveyors of pushy rock. Our music says that and our name says that. BULLY UP!
