Bruce Forte
I try to make music that combines the sonic intensity of Techno with the spontaneous creativity of Free Jazz. Then I try to stuff it into the compositional forms of baroque period Classical. I know it's not everyones cup of tea, but it's the music I need to hear. If you're serious about music, bring your New Ear and dig in.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I'm originally a Punk/Jazz instrumentalist (bass, keyboard/piano, drums) from Boston by way of New York City. In '78 I formed and played bass in the NYC band Casual Tease, which performed at many of the city's rock discos, and was featured 3 times at Jim Fouratt's original Danceteria. Casual Tease was equally at home playing downtown jazz clubs. When I moved to California in the late 80's I studied classical piano and composition and performed Jazz locally. Then I got hooked up to the internet, started flying my rig and here I am!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I do live duets with various collaborators....
Your musical influences
I'm heavily influenced by L.V.Beethoven, J.S.Bach, Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Zappa, Weather Report, Keith Jarrett, Captain Beefheart, Wayne Shorter and others.
What equipment do you use?
Kawai K11 synth, Alesis Quadrasynth, Yamaha G5, Steinberger 5 string fretless, Toy Piano and a host of beep-boop boxes and software.
