Brad Weiss

Just me, on the mandolin- and a few tracks with a guitar, as well. In my real life, I'm a professor of Cultural Anthropology at the College of William & Mary. http://www.wm.edu/anthropology/faculty/weiss/index.html How these things relate to one another is a vast mystery.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I've been playing mandolin since September 2002, when I hit the ripe old age of 40. I'd be delighted to hear your comments, criticisms, or anything you'd like to convey.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Only at the Carrboro Music Festival in 2006, then 2007. Loved it!! And would love to play more such events/gigs. (Just ask!)
Your musical influences
I could tell you my influences, but I'd raise very misleading expectations! I play some swing, some samba, lots of choro.
What equipment do you use?
I play a beautiful Phoenix Europa Neoclassical Mandolin built by Rolfe Gerhardt in mid-2005. I just had a super cool A5 built by Andrew Mowry, too- finished on Valentine's Day 2007. And recently acquired a top-notch 1920 Gibson A4. I back myself up with an Ibanez Artcore guitar (now sold), or my newish D'Angelico EXL on occasion. And I record Garageband files on my MacBook, or use a Zoom H2
