BOX OF STUFF is a rock and roll band based in Lost Angeles. The BOS debut CD called HOLLYWOOD SUCKS is avail at CDBABY.COM, It's easy to find at www.CDbaby.com/boxofstuff. Who is Boxofstuff? Conrad and Andy are all that are left of a once great civilization of rock and roll musicians. Why do they love rock n roll so much? Rock and roll saved their souls!
Band/artist history
We came, we saw, we formed.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We love playing live in our garage. It's the one venue that doesn't ask us to pay before we play.
Your musical influences
The usual suspects, except we tend to be influenced more by filmmakers who inspire our visual side... Film makers like Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick, Sam Peckinpah, Martin Scorcese and Francis Coppola have a rock and roll attitude about making films which we draw inspiration from - not to mention song titles and ideas for lyrics. Writers like Anthony Burgess, Arthur Miller, Mark Twain and Ray Bradbury let you see things with their words. We like hearing and buying unsigned, independent bands and we support them as much as we can. Some of our favorites are the SLUTBOYS, The Know it Alls, Brilliant Sins and Pillow of Wrongness. Musically BOX OF STUFF sounds like a cross between Soundgarden, The Cult, The Tubes, Aerosmith and The Police. We used to play a lot of Elvis Costello, REM, Cheap Trick, Adam Ant, XTC, Clash, U2 and other punk/alternative bands in clubs. Our songwriting gives us a chance to express a unique vision. We strive to reach the heights of writers like David Bowie, Jagger/Richards, Lennon/McCartney, Townsend. Obviously these names are icons to us and we don't say we're anywhere near their level, but we aspire to be as good as them.
What equipment do you use?
Our guitars are Fender strats, Ibanez Night Hawk, Gibson Les Paul, Hamer, Fender Bass, Epiphone Casino, Gretch Drums and the DM5 drum module. We've owned huge PA systems and lighting shows so we know what's what when it comes to rock and roll gear. The latest digital effects for vocals and guitars are great to enhance the creative process. New technology is exciting, but it doesn't replace good songs. Try everything, settle for the best. We have pro tools and we have the ability to do a lot of programming for live shows, but why bother? Rock and roll is about taking a chance on that stage that something will go terribly wrong. Don't you love when it does?
Anything else?
In 50 years they'll look back at this time in music history as a golden age - a transition between broadcasting and narrowcasting. It's cool that we were able to be a tiny insignificant part of that change.
