BIO..Bob E Ruglass.Pianist/ Composer/Producer/Arranger
Bob E. Ruglass, born in May Pen, Clarendon,Jamaica, is one of the most talented musician ever to emerge from this beautiful island. He has played in almost every hot venue in Jamaica, including the famed VIP, Sombrero, Brown Jug clubs just to name a few. His trip to Canada paved the way for his musical future. At first, he made Montreal his new homeland to pursue a career in Civil Engineering but his love for music changed that dream. After exhausting himself playing in Montreals night clubs and lounges,Bob realized that composing and recording music was his dream,so he recorded his first 45 RPM with Boot Records in the seventies, which was the foundation for his musical aspirations. Years later the music and political scene changed in Quebec, so Ruglass made the decision to move to Toronto. As he became settled in the faster paced lifestyle he hooked up with a guitarist named Tony Campbell and Singer OJ Hall to form one of the most talented Reggae Bands in Canadian history called ..One Love... The band..s first self-titled album won best new reggae album in 1981 Black Awards for Music in Canada.
Bob E. Ruglass, the producer/arranger/composer/pianist, has been an integral part of Reggae music in Canada and has performed with many of its pioneers who have passed through the city of Toronto. Leroy Sibbles, Beres Hammond, John Holt, Toots and the Maytals, Shabba Ranks, Ken Boothe, Stranger Cole, and The Melodians, just to name a few. His versatility in music is unquestionable. He has had a few remarkable yet memorable encounters with many of Jazzs top performers, such as Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, Branford & Wynton Marsalis and to cap it, the legendary Miles Davis. His contribution to music in Canada has earned him numerous awards in the past, including the prestigious ..Bob Marley Awards...and for 2007, The Crucible Award,(The Circle of Distinction Award for Mucicians), plus The Canadian Reggae Music Awards (The Best Caribbean Oriented Jazz CD), for his Jazz solo piano CD, "Beyond Omega"
