Bobbie Gallup
I have written or cowritten all the lyrics on this site. The vocals in most cases are performed by the composers or by professional demo singers. You really wouldn't want to hear me do my own material! I find that the creative give and take of the collaboration process is genuinely stimulating and enjoy working with a variety of composers. Much of my work is in the country genre but I also have dabbled in gospel, blues and even a few children's songs.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I played dead a few times. Since I am not much of a musician, the only real playing I do is...well, we won't go there. Hedwig Von Kratochville kicked me out of my piano lessons when I was 7 because I fooled her for almost a year into thinking I was sight reading my music. Needless to say she was furious when I accidentally played a song in the wrong key. Whew! What a tragic end to my plans for becoming a concert pianist.
Your musical influences
A few of the folks whose writing has influenced me would have to include Skip Ewing, Harry Chapin, Victoria Shaw, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Steve Wariner, Hugh Prestwood, Tony Arata, Tia Sellars, Angela Kaset, Greg Barnhill, Chuck Cannon, Gretchen Peters, Bob DiPiero, Craig Wiseman, Jeffrey Steele, Ian Tyson, Willie Nelson and of course some from my earlier years Simon Garfunkel, most anything by the Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Kris Kristofferson. I could go on, but you get the picture. Just don't blame them for my writing, ok!
