Black Star
Classic Rock revival
Band/artist history
Everything began in 1980. Five teenagers are finishing their high school years in Sherbrooke. Four of them regularly cross each other in the school's hallways, but they do not know that they all share the same passion for rock music.
Each on their own, they experience the stage. Some of them gain a little recognition, but none is entirely satisfied. For most of them, bands and musicians just pass by. They are all under the impression that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
In 1982, the four current players meet together. The formula is working; fun and talent are there, but there is something missing, a voice. Then begins the laborious task of recruiting a singer. The band goes through many lineups, although the talent is there, there is something missing... the last singer was O.K., but he was sort of in a parallel universe. They feel like they have tried everything: posters in school, classified in the papers, contacts... they are on the hold...
One summer night of 1983, they are out to see the band of one of their old schoolmates. He plays guitar. During the evening, he grabs the microphone for one song... the light is at the end of the tunnel!... Everybody is certain that they have found their man and they invite him for a rehearsal; it picks up...
In early 1984, the band participates in a neighborhood contest. They win the first prize; they are on a roll. From then on, shows and experiences prove to be rewarding in many ways. In early 1985, the band takes up its current name Black Star and hops on the "FOIRE ROCK - POWER ROCK 1985-1986", along with Search from Marieville and Apocalypse from Sherbrooke. A tour of Quebec's main cities is completed and by the end of 1986... their individual professional lives takes precedence over music and the band stops playing together...???
Ten years after, on March 16, 1996, an unprepared show takes place in Waterville and lights up the fire again. All five have a grin on their face and take their instruments out of the closet. On July 20, of the same year, in Sherbrooke, the band makes an official come back after ten years. That night, Black Star makes a statement!...
In 2001, a guitar player change and the band moves on.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live, not often enough to our taste. We play in the Eastern Townships area in Quebec, Canada. We love it. Special moments, these are censored!!
Your musical influences
Led Zep to Lenny Kravitz, Judas Priest to Van Halen. Show us good rythm, heavy guitar, a thumping bass, and we love it.
What equipment do you use?
Vox Valvetronix and Marsall Amps. We sound amazing!!!
