Blackened Heart Syndrome
We're a hardcore / metal band from Manchester in the UK.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Having previously all been in bands except bassist Andy, Blackened Heart Syndrome is musically a departure for all concerned. Jon had previously been in the mythical Jeffrey's Kebab Trick, Adz had been in Manchester legends Scissorfist, and Casey had been in grindcore band Superagonizer.
Blackened Heart Syndrome was inititally conceived when Andy, who had known Jon for 2 years, asked if he fancied doing some Converge-style screaming for a band he was putting together. Jon agreed to this, and soon they were on the seemingly neverending hunt for a drummer. After a while they found Casey, and then soon afterwards Adz came into the fold.
Our first practise was held in September 2003, where we wrote our first two songs in the space of 4 hours. And boy, looking back, does it show. Our music is based pretty much in the US hardcore scene, with bands such as Converge, Give Up The Ghost, Cave In, Hatebreed etc. being major influences on us all, as well as all our individual tastes.
Our first gigs were played in December 2003 to packed crowds and we're going into the studio to produce our first demo, "Map Of Africa". More gigs will follow, and then... the world!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yeah, we play in Manchester (and anywhere else that'll have us!). Our singer Jon tends to bleed a lot.
