Band/artist history
2002, the year of Purple Hulk and Air Force Ones. But that wasn't all that was taking place, that was also the year Barron “BJ” Johnson got the idea to start rapping. Born in the large Dallas neighborhood of Oak Cliff, and later moved to the Dallas suburb of DeSoto, he was always around some sort of musical influence. At the age of 10 he realized that he could have a future in the rap business. But even though he had the skills, determination, and way with words, he still lacked the equipment. Until 2004, when he got his first pair of the famous Bape shoes, he wrote a song called "Platinum Reppaz". He made the beat on MTV's "Music Remixer" video game for the X-Box game system, and recorded it on his voice recorder. His friends only laughed at it, and joked at his rhymes. So he decided to give up on rap. In December 2005, he got back into doing rap because so many of his friends were rapping. He wrote a whole notebook full of songs, for an unnamed CD he planned on making. One day before he planned to record his songs, his studio on his computer malfunctioned, causing recording to cease. Then, one day while watching MTV’s "The Shop", he heard some other rapper’s rhymes that made him think. He compared his rhymes to the other rapper's, and decided to start all over. This was a major setback in his career. In Spring 2007, BJ decided to buy a studio software for his computer along with a microphone. After recording his 1st official song "Drop Em", BJ had an instant confidence boost. But after hearing his "idol" Kia Shine's album, he realized it was okay to rap about swag, and persued it. As a classic New Years stunt, BJ released a slew of songs on New Years Day, releasing songs with an all new BJ, updated lyrics, and better sound quality. Now, with his debut independant album almost finished, BJ is sure to have the streets buzzing this summer. Although just a freshman in the rap business, and sophomore in High School, BJ rhymes like a graduate. "I'm tryin' to do somethin' different den all deez otha Dallas rappers, and and try to make it sound mo’ like Swag Music", says the Texas native. Different but still likeable and entertaining, BJ's music is soon to be the next big thing.
