Billy Rubin
Billy Rubin was formed by Bob Pantella in late 2001, initially as an instrument for his own creativity.
Having played in a number of bands over his career and maintaining a presence on the NJ scene, Bob was not with what he saw to be his choices and sought a vehicle to communicate his many ideas, eventually looking to form a band around this entity.
The project was unnamed to begin with and yet after some connections were rekindled and calls made, along with a little consistent networking, a name was suggested by a divine moment and the current line-up came to be. The band as it is currently configured, continues to evolve at a rate hitherto unimagined by any of the members.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The band has a collection of individual histories, all having either known of each other's past band involvement or indeed each being involved in past bands. BillyRubin is forming its own unique history as fast as Revisionistas can try to alter it.
For the record Bob played once in in a band called . Sunshine was in a few obscure bands, with names such as Elysium, and . Lex played alongside Bob in , a band most noted for its scoring of the entire soundtrack for Clerks in 1994.
Initially manned by Matt O'Ree of , the guitar slot has recently been taken up by PJ Zitarosa who has toured with , a group featuring former members of Tyketto.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We recently started to play out shows, so far in New York City, but plan to expand our shows to include the more clubs in the Tri_State NY-NJ-CT-PA area.
Your musical influences
We find inspiration through many, many forms of music: heavy metal, hard rock, jazz, electronica and blues
What equipment do you use?
We compose using a variety of tools ranging from Reason and Pro Tools, to Cakewalk and a Roland JX 305 keyboard. We have used the Pod for various pre-production guitar work. We also make use of a wide range of vintage equipment such as a Hammond B3, the " Leslie", A Wurlitzer and even a simple tape recorder for strange found samples.
