Originally from Pasadena, California, Slim has taken up residence in many cities across the United States. While completing his high school degree, Big Slims outstanding athletic abilities gained the attention of several scouts from surrounding college basketball teams. Rated one of the best high school prospects in California, Big Slim went on to play for the Siskiyous Junior College Basketball Team for one season. He then turned his interests to the music industry, relocating to Alberta, Canada.
Big Slims early efforts include competing in San Franciscos 94.9 WILD Radio Freestyle Competition, which led him to record his first track entitled Nothing But A Thing. After moving to Alberta, Canada, he entered the 2001 SummerJam Freestyle Contest taking top spot, winning a four-song demo package. While in the process of recording his demo, Big Slims material made a lasting impression on the producers of award winning hip-hop group Warparty. Being offered the opportunity to become a featured artist, he became the opening act for Warpartys national tour across Canada.
Over the past year, Big Slim has performed alongside such mainstream acts as Arista recording artist DJ Quik, Guru of Gangstarr, Krumbsnatcha, Mac Mall, Virgin recording artist Choclair, Baby Blue Soundcrew, The Shape Shifters, former BET 106 & Park Freestyle Champion Bishop, EMI recording artist K-OS, and Linus Entertainment artists Harpoon Missile.
By means of his dedication and commitment to music, Big Slim has already gained considerable attention within the rap/hip-hop scene. My daughter and life are my two major influences, but musically i'm into marvin gaye, stevie wonder, etc. ya' know real soulful artists ... But hip-hop wise I am feeling nas,xzibit,scarface,talib kweli and ... Me! ..What equipment do you use?
