BIG RED MONSTER is the name of my band. right now it is a band of "One" I have played in several local bands here in the Phoenix area in the past. (INDECENT EXPOSURE, JUST, THE BURNLACKERS, RAIN ROSE ALCHEMY, SOUL DRIVER...) Several years ago a career change convinced me that I didn't have time for the commitments necessary for playing in a full time band... So I bought some recording equipment. Then I got married and took on the responibility of raising 3 young boys... So, I didn't have time to play or record much. Now that I'm divorced and re-married to a woman who appreciates my need to play music, I finally have time to start working on music again! The purpose of the "Big Red Monster recording project" is to have fun. That's it. This isn't for money, or an attempt at fame or a music career.... Oh, by the way, I also do all my own artwork......Band/artist history
History is being made day by day...Have you performed in front of an audience?I live & record in in a secret laboratory in Laveen Arizona
Your musical influences
I grew up listening to country. Waylon Jennings, Willy Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams..You know, country. I'm also A big fan of Dwight Yoakam and Lyle Lovett. When I was in high school I was a huge Led Zepplin fan. I still am. In fact, John Paul Jones inspired me to play the Bass. (I'm really a Bass player... Everything else I do I concider to be "Faking it" ) Yep, I'm a Beatles fan, also love the Rolling Stones. Frank Zappa taught me that music could be funny... I loved Punk rock in the 1980s. I saw Black Flag, (Met Henry Rollins) The Circle Jerks, The Dead Kennedys, The Meat Puppets. The "Alternative Music Revolution" of the 1990s was an amazing time (Does anyone from Phoenix remember 1060AM KUKQ???) I have also been influenced by bands like Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Sun Volt, and Freedy Johnson. I really don't set any limitations on the style of music I will play. Anything from country to heavy metal. If I have an idea for a song, I just go with it. I record about 50% originals and 50% cover tunes. When I do a cover song I like to find a totally different approach to it. since this is just for fun, I hope no one will get upset about me recording cover songs. I think of it as free advertising for, and a tribute to the original artist... Hope they see it that wayWhat equipment do you use?
Where to begin..Hmmm. Well, let me start off by explaining how I recorded this CD. It was recorded over about 2 months in February & March of 2007 using a Yamaha AW16G 16 track digital recording unit. All of the drum tracks were recorded using a Yamaha PSR E203 keyboard. All bass tracks (Except Track 10) were recorded with a Fender "American Standard" 63 re-issue P-Bass directly into the board. Electric guitar tracks were recorded with a Fender "special Edition" Korean made Telecaster through a Line6 Spyder 50 watt amplifier, which I recorded into the board using a microphone. I used the tone settings on the amp with no pedals or other effects processors. I also used a Fender "Acoustic Electric" and an old classical acoustic called the "Conqueror" that was given to me years ago as a gift from JD of "World Class Thugs" & "Psycho Square Dance". Both acoustic guitars were recorded using a Dean Markley pick up. (The kind that sticks on the bridge with putty) I played all the instruments and sang all the vocals. All vocal tracks were doubled with at least 2 tracks to give them a natural chorus effect...And because my voice sucks.
