Betty Lou
Hi, my name is Betty Johnson and my 'band' consists of only me! I am a songwriter of Blues,
Country and pop. I have been writing music and
entertaining for many, many years. At the present time I am concentrating on my songwriting, looking for recording artists who may be interested in my material.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I have been playing guitar and singing since the
age of fourteen. Have played with many different
bands in nightclubs, theaters, fairs, and, in the
50s I was a regular on the Cornhusker's Jamboree,
a television show broadcast live from WCPO TV.
Just recently, I had the honor of being the 'Special Guest' on Ernie Ashworth's album (From the heart and lips of Ernie Ashworth) with a song I wrote and performed, called "Play Talk Back Trembling Lips". It's getting a fair amount
of airplay around the world.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I still play live, occasionally, close to where
I live. I love it, but do not do it as often as
I used to.
Your musical influences
In my teens, I was really into R&B, but I also dabbled in Country as my sister, Nancy, was a big
Country Music fan and being as we shared the same room- I heard lots of Country Music. Which came in handy when I went to audition for a television
show in Cincinnati, called "Cornhusker's Jamboree". I won the audition and was a regular
on the show. I love Loretta Lynn because she is not afraid to write her feelings into a song. I am a lot like Loretta. I love many types of music.
What equipment do you use?
I play guitar, bass, some keyboards.
Anything else?
All of my songs contain a lot of harmony. I love
harmony and what you hear is ME, MYSELF, and I.
