Biography
The game’s about to change The top dogs are retiring at the height of their careers and the Hip Hop community is calling out for, “the next thing.” Ben Frank, the West Philly born lyricist from 52nd street (The Strip), has come to fill in where the greats have left off and to take Hip Hop to a whole new level as far as creativity, flow and style.
Ben Frank’s story starts at age 13, when he was touring with Wu Tang Clan as part of the group Bumps-N-Bruises. “Back in the day I was going by the name Shortie Smalls, I was just a young buck, I just loved performing,” said Frank. “Being in that group and building with the Wu gave me knowledge of the game early.”
After four years of shows and touring, Ben Frank expanded his knowledge of the game and life by taking his talents to college and did four years in the “State Penn” (Penn State University). Frank kept it moving and hooked up with Brooklyn young gunner Prime Dinero. They quickly became partners in rhyme and by winter 2000, the two would form the group known as Stacks & Prime. They recorded a self-titled EP and pushed 1000 units through hand-to-hand sales. “This was a jump off for bigger and better things because the people responded well to that EP,” said Frank.
In late 2001, it was back to Philly to make more fire! Frank recorded with the group Face Off and made some of the best music in his career to date. This was a motivating factor for his decision to go solo. “I wanted to do my own thing because I felt it was my time,” said Frank.
Ben Frank has been recording as a solo artist since early 2002 and has been creating an incredible buzz in Philly, by blessing mix tapes, shows and radio. He has also established himself as a marketable talent by gaining the support of Philadelphia area clothing stores, such as Total Sport & Dr. Denim in early 2003.
Frank has been building his rhyme resume up since going solo and has released the street industry respected solo project , “The Executive Mix Tape “ in Fall of 2003. This is the first official effort as a solo artist and through the course of recording, artists such as: Kanye West, Ludacris, Method Man and Scarface all showed their support on the tape.
With the “The Executive Mix Tape,” on the streets Ben Frank is primed and is ready for the release of his first commercial single in February 2004. From there the sky is the limit.
Ben Frank’s story is much deeper and is going to be a testament to his life and times. The rhymes speak for themselves as Frank puts it “I refuse to lose, I’m no less than a winner, I left the door ajar to my life, feel free to enter”thuskyb's station
